Camcorner recommendation

I've bought grey imports from B&H, I guess by the time they got to me they were double-grey? :)

There was a massive fight on a Facebook page I follow... All after a guy advertised grey import products there.

Photographers was out to get the guy because - in their words - He was killing photography, manufacturers and people trying to make a decent living from selling legit photographic equipment.

One gets the feeling that some people have a misconception about grey products. Some people believe it is counterfeit goods or faulty goods...

I am seriously considering getting one from these dealers or importing one myself. With my budget, an extra R3000 can go a very long way.

Tsk... Tsk... Tsk :D
I was only kidding - well half joking at any rate. I thought you'd be gearing up for sports or has that ship sailed without you?

Ooohhh a FB fight - I hope no one was injured… :)

The only hassle with grey importing as you know is warranty repairs. Maybe it's just me but I've never had a camera, or lens, fail for something that would have been covered by any warranty, local or otherwise during the warranty period.

I bought a 24-70 Sigma from CameraQuip and there was a problem (online checking seemed to indicate there was a problem with this lens at times, so wasn't the dealer's fault). Lens was picked up from me, repaired and sent back. Only problem was the waiting time...

Awesome. Glad to know there were no problems honouring their warranty.

Beginning of this Year I purchased my D600 and D7100 from them. Around R3 000 per camera cheaper than Orms and Studio 22 plus free delivery to CT if over R15 000, they had the Tamron 24 - 70mm f2.8 for R9 800 but I bought it at Studio 22 instead coz Studio 22 offered me a free 82mm UV filter which was R800, their price for the lens was R9879, Paid R9079, Camcorner lens total would have been R9 800 plus R250 delivery charges = R10 050.

Peace of mind knowing that you have dealt with them more than once and were happy.

Which sigma? The f/2,8 HSM or the other one? I've got the HSM and it's had its share of problems but damn, I love that lump of lens.

The day I take you seriously about the Nikon/Canon debate.... Please ban me!

Yeah... about the sports thing... Our baby complicated things a little bit. I'm still very much interested but priorities have changed somewhat in the past year and a half. Maybe one day when I am grown up, hey? (Read: Buy a Canon) :D

Fair enough. I was worried the low FPS and small buffer would hamper things and almost suggested something like a used D3s might be a better bet but babies don't move particularly fast :)

@bwana

Know about your US connection... But how did you bypass the B&H shipping restrictions?

Did you use a Forwarding Company?

Thought so much...

Thanks. Some good specials on ebay for D7100 kits. Including a bunch of lenses (cheapies) and useless accessories. Still good deals if only they ship to SA.

Thanks for the links Tun@ - Some really nice prices there.

I have no idea why I am so nervous about making this purchase....

I imported all 3 laptops in my house. I even imported my wife's 0.5ct Diamond for her engagement ring. So this should be an easy decision for me.

It gives me peace of mind that the company in your links offer 3 and 5 year Mack Warranties. (At an extra fee of course).

Their real,i guess you looked thru their ebay feedback.
Take a look here also in the more recent pages - some good ,some not so good experiences but overall i guess that can come with any larger operation.... http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1570974

I guess the biggest question is are you saving enough to warrant the possible extra hassle of getting something grey repaired should the need arise, didn't sound like Randir had too much trouble other than a bit of time tho.

Yeah I am not worried about their legitimacy at all...

You might be spot on about the "saving enough money to warrant the risk of no local warranty" part.

I know it is a 1 in a million chance that I might need repairs done or the product is faulty out of the box. But with my luck lately those aren't very good odds for me. :)

Will just have to make the call.

If I work it out correctly I will be paying about R12500 with shipping and import duties.

versus R15,800 @ Orms...who from my recent experience won't budge 1 cent

Jip. And that way I can get myself a 35mm F1.8 while I'm at it. And I don't even need to sell my current setup.

It really is appealing, isn't it?

I think they call it a no brainer - (until something breaks) - but then there's no promise Nikon SA is any faster fixing it anyway huh.:)

Okay. I've just completed my purchase from T-Dimension.

Had some email correspondence with them before I made the purchase.

Went with the D7100 body only. I added a SanDisk 16GB SD Card (95mb/s) and also added a 3 year International Mack Warranty.

If all goes well I might have it by Thursday afternoon. Otherwise Monday morning.
