I'm really interested in getting a Glidecam HD 2000 for my Canon 550D so I can shoot video smoothly.

Anyone have any experience with the Glidecam and know where would be the best place to buy one?

I've also seen the steady cams that use a ball and pivot motion but I prefer the rigidity of the Glidecam.

I have never used one of these dedicated stabilizers, but you can have some fun with a normal tripod. Just find the centre of gravity of your tripod+camera combination, and hold the tripod loosely by that point. The weight of the tripod will act as a counterbalance, effectively stabilizing your camera.

Disclaimer: Obviously you are at risk of damaging your equipment while following my suggestion. You have been warned.

Damn those are expensive!! I would rather just buy a cheap monopod (R200-400), make my own handles and fix a weight to the bottom....

No offence but none of these posts have answered my question :p I've looked at a lot of DIY rigs but I have my heart set on getting something more permanent. The reason why I like this stabilizer is because it very precise and customizable so I can tune it according to lens size and shooting conditions.
