Does anybody know what are the restrictions regarding taking cameras to the games.
I want to take my DSLR with a decent zoom.

It's allowed for private use.

EDIT. PS. And a wide angle lens for some great stadium shots.

Found this on the T&C's -

Prohibited -

- cameras (except for private use and then only with one set of replacement or rechargeable batteries), video cameras or other sound or video recording equipment;

So yes you may. I considered it, but booze and a DSLR don't mingle to well... :)

Geez - I didn't know there were *any* restrictions!

There is a post on ODP that say that you may not take cameras with removeable lenses - apparently this was reported on some radio station.

From what I have heard you can not take pictures of the games or players. Have sent an email to Fifa. Doubt if I will ever get a reply.

I guess they won't allow you to rock up with your 500mm lens. :p

That doesn't sound right. Impossible to police, plus you always see the flashes going off in the crowd at international soccer games.

Given the non-existent information the biggest problem is Mr. XYZ enforcing the policy when you enter the stadium, and who probably doesn't know the difference between a P&S and a DSLR. You're pretty screwed once you're there and they don't allow your camera.

This is what I was told when I attended the Stormers vs Boland super14 warmup game at Cape Town Stadium. As long as you don't have interchangeble lenses, you will be fine. Your other option would be to get press accreditation.

As SiriS noted FIFA seems to be fairly relaxed about what you take in as long as its not going to be used commercially.

Forget about getting press accreditation at this stage. That ship sailed months ago.

See, bwana ...

This is where super zoom P&S come in ;)

:confused: there's no apparent restriction on bringing a camera in, just what you can do with the images you take.

I have found several sites regarding the rules while at the stadiums. None of them say anything about using a camera with interchangeable lenses. The rules mostly state what is not allowed and then for cameras:
p) (no) cameras (except for private use and then only with one set of replacement or rechargeable batteries), video cameras or other sound or video recording equipment;
So basically, take whatever still photos you want, but no videos/sound recordings.

Edit: finally found the Fifa page on this, and it states exactly what is quoted as well.

Best to print it out and take it as evidence in the camera bag.
