Cameras at the World Cup

I got my 50d with grip and 100-400mm and 20d with 10-20mm into the Holland-Cameroon match in Cape Town last week without any problem.

Where did you sit? I was sitting right at the end of the row and low down so I think it was easy for the guy to spot me and tell me to put it away. If I was sitting higher up and more in the middle I think I would have been fine

I was 10 rows from the pitch in the one corner, the police and volunteers/assistants did not seem to notice.
 
Finally, a confirmed ticket for a SWC match, tomorrow night, . . . and I now have the same dilemma as many others before me. What lens/body to take. :o
 
I have gone to two games, the second being the semi at Durban. Both times I have carried a metal bodied APC sized, enthusiasts/semi pro camera in and a 70 - 210 F4 lens. I did not even get asked to open the bag the camera was in on either occasion. Leave your VG behind as it has a pro look about it and carries an extra battery.

Had great fun at the games and never got asked to put the camera away. My advice is to just put the camera and lens in a small bag, I had my lens detached from the camera, the lens at the bottom of the bag and then camera on top of the lens. The bag was just big enough for me to fit the two in. The bag was then slung over my shoulder. I doubt anyone will bother you.

I'm thinking of bringing my 7D with the 16-35 on it and the 70-200 f/4 with a 1.4tc in the bottom of the bag.

Good combo I think. Lighting in the stadium isn't that great (as you know) so the 70-200 f4 with 1.4tc won't suck up too much light. Plus your body can handle high ISOs with no problem. Do you have any idea more or less where you're going to be sitting?

I think our stadium has about the same lighting as you guys. I was stupid and tried to stay away from ISO 1600 (its not that great on my 400D) so got around the same readings as you with the 100-400mm but got quite a bit of blur :/ Tonight I'll have to shoot at 1600 or even 3200 just to get some sharp shots of Forlan :D
 
Hmmm. Maybe I should have waited until next week to put my sigma 150-500 up for sale. May just leave the 16-35 at home and just throw the kit lens in my bag instead.
