Gosh I dunno if this sounds like a stupid question or not, but i'm looking to buy a black and white printer as I dont need the colour, but thing is I want to print alot of stuff in greyscale, do you have to have a colour printer for this?

I'm really struggling to find a laser printer that can print greyscale and that is cost effective at the same time without overly priced cartridges, my budget is like 250 euros max(live in Germany now) if anyone could give me some good suggestions that would be great :)

I think this is a 1200dpi, postscript printer with WiFi. Overkill?

Not sure if this is LaserJet Pro 400 M401dn or M401dw? The dw version has WiFi.

Here is the HP LaserJet selection guide. If you need scanning capability then look at the MFPs (Multifunction Printers). I find the wireless scanning feature on mine very useful.

Look at true 1200dpi, many printers are not true 1200dpi, some marketing gimmics. You need a true 1200x1200dpi optical resolution, as gray scale is achieved by dithering. Better resolution, more gray levels are availiable. Printing engine also matters. Postscript better renders complex pages and gray scale than PCL. Use PCL for everything else, as it prints faster.

Unfortunately many multifunction printers are not true 1200dpi.
