Hi all,

just to let everybody know, Im a non smoker, and will always remain one, no matter what....
(best decision I ever made)

question I have is for a family member of mine, been smoking since they were 16, almost 57 now,
constant pack a day(20's) smoker, sometimes 2 packs sometimes a bit less,
(cost a fortune, even if its those "sharp" cigarettes)

question I have is can somebody like this stop? with no health consequences?
also is it even possible to quit after that long?
I mean I constantly hear that people that suddenly stop smoking suffer with MORE health problems,

I hear people have strokes, and heart problems after quitting and staying clean off smokes,

and as to all those that say why he dont vape, not sure probably not interested...
smokes those terrible zim cigarettes, that so cheap , but does own a twisp but hardly ever uses it....

whats peoples experience been like?

is it possible to stop? absolutely

s it possible to stop for someone that doesn't want to stop? Impossible

absolute rubbish imo. every day you don't smoke, it's just an improvement.... people are looking for excuses to keep smoking if they believe that.

This. I stopped smoking after 10+ years, using those pills that give nasty lucid dreams. My dad who's been smoking for much longer has been in the hospital for a few weeks now, he had a stroke. He's not all there anymore, but he hasn't forgotten that he smokes. He often tells us to put the cigarette out for him and gives us his hand. There's no cigarette obviously but I think he's so used to it, he doesn't want to stop

Both my folks quit after smoking about 40 years. If they can anyone can ;)

Anyone can stop but not without health consequences

I just did..
Started vaping may 2016 and gave that up ~one year later after gradually bringing nicotine levels down. No discomfort with either change.

Good riddance, dont miss the stink & wheezy chest at all..

Definitely do not miss smoking. It stinks. I still love my friends who smoke, but they stink :p *cough cough @Baxteen, @Moosedrool*

Honestly though, my room smells better, I smell better, I can taste things better. It's all just better now

I once heard a pregnant mom say that she can't stop smoking as the baby will have withdrawal symptoms :wtf:

And yes, anyone can quit, doesn't matter how long they smoked.

My brother's ex wife never stopped smoking during pregnancy. The doctor apparently advised against stopping.

Started smoking age 13 - stole from my father! Lucky Strike & Texan Plain.

Stopped at age 45. Cold Turkey. Was then smoking on 20 to 30 a day & had been since I left school. More if on the jol and drinking - 2 packs in a night out easily.. Camel Plain & Camel Filter. The odd Gauloise here and there.

Made 10kg of pickled onions. Had one every time I wanted a smoke.

As said before, the person has to mentally WANT to stop. Otherwise it is a waste of time to even try.

3 years non smoker after 34 years 20+ a day. Did the pills thing for 6 months. Being a diabetic its one of best things I have done.
