If I remember correctly it had something to do with stress on her and the baby if she stopped while she was pregnant. Why?

I'm sorry, but I think the Doctor gave terrible and reckless advice. I truly hope the child is healthy?
You cannot tell me that pumping poison into your body, which a fetus also absorbs is better than a mother going through a little bit of stress from stopping.

Question for you guys, does self hypnosis make any difference?
This. I stopped smoking after 10+ years, using those pills that give nasty lucid dreams. My dad who's been smoking for much longer has been in the hospital for a few weeks now, he had a stroke. He's not all there anymore, but he hasn't forgotten that he smokes. He often tells us to put the cigarette out for him and gives us his hand. There's no cigarette obviously but I think he's so used to it, he doesn't want to stop
Thanks all, family member hates easyway, and hates when people complain about the smoking, and the smell and the constant coughing,
I honestly brought him the twisp cape machine so they can quit, doesn't seem to help one little bit.
If he wants its possible, nobody can force or encourage them? Am I correct?
Problem is I am paying for the damm things.... Even though its the cheap and nasty "sharp" ones....

You guys are right about wanting to stop. If you don't want to, it won't happen.Remember that old adege that the 12 step method mentions. The first and hardest part to recovery is admitting you have a problem.
3 years non smoker after 34 years 20+ a day. Did the pills thing for 6 months. Being a diabetic its one of best things I have done.
You're right about the will. Without that it's pointless trying. All it takes is the will. Learn than smoking is a habit, not an addiction and learn how to break the habit.
Food and drink masks the taste of the cigarette - it's psychological. No coincidence that heavy smokers usually love coffee or wine - both have strong flavours. It stinks. Worst thing ever, when people eat and smoke, what the........ Guess I will never understand, cos i never smoked or did "drugs"![]()

By the way, I'm addicted to the drug and I have an entrenched habit. Should I ever conceive the intention of stopping, it will require dealing with both.
I do occasionally stop during Lent. So I can go for a month or two without smoking. But I've never actually wanted or intended to stop permanently.
My father, who smoked 60 Gold Dollar plain cigarettes a day, stopped cold turkey, on the day a doctor showed him what my grandfather's lung looked like after they had removed it, when the old man became bedridden.
He just took the packet out of his pocket and threw it away in the hospital ( Bloemfontein) waiting room.
He never smoked again, no patches no BS just stopped.
The same with my wife. She stopped when she fell pregnant. Cold Turkey no fiddling and BS.
It is called will power!
Me? I never started ... That is also called will power not giving in to peer pressure.
In a way this helped me, too. I used to smoke indoors - gross in hindsight as my Mrs has never smoked. Stopped smoking in the crapper first. Then indoors altogether. Cut my consumption by half.I think the drug has a much lesser effect than people perceive it to have, and I say this through my own efforts to step back and identify my smoking behaviour and dealing with it logically.
Stopping smoking in the house was a start, extending it to weekends was an extension, and eventually reducing the cravings by getting used to these steps (in turn) saw me then hopping in the car (for example) on a Monday morning and lighting up immediately, without thought.
This took place over a few years of course, but recognising and isolating the habit of lighting up at certain times made it actually quite easy to stop eventually. And of course, the times that I would almost give in after a few days or weeks was after a meal, or going to the pub.
All habitual smoking and all completely controllable if you recognise the symptoms and of course, IF you want to stop![]()
