Can Google Desktop search slow PC down?

I have noticed since loading Google Desktop Search that my PC has slowed down. Is this usual ? It starts ok but after awhile I find that pages take ages to load and videos stop loading, they just hang? Could I change some of "my computer settings" to compensate for this or is it something else?

yes, so does Windows search. Better to turn off all indexing and search features if you rarely use them.

Google Desktop search is also rumoured to chew bandwidth when idle as well.

Google Desktop will destroy your p.c.
On Monday I had to go and uninstall it from a users computer. It was using over 700 MB ram .

So avoid if possible......

Hopefully that was the problem. I have uninstalled it at home. However does it with lots of uninstalls leave remlants that still chow ram. Like I uninstalled FF and was told that I need to go to profiles and delete more?

Searching is an essential part of my work with my computer, I regularly have to search for information hidden somewhere on my hard drive therefore I need a Desktop Search. I experienced the same problems with the above mentionend tools there are however Desktop search tools which are not slowing down your computer, mine is called lookeen and it is even an Outlook search tool.
