hi all, I must format my hdd and reinstall windows. but then i loose all windows and avg security updates. is there a possible way to backup or save these updates? i have the genuine software. thanks.

AVG updates u can easily backup (cant elaborate im driving) not sure about windows updates though

hmmmmmmmm, u can do what many ppl do.
install windows, install all the common programs u use, do windows updates, update your anti virus and use a program called NORTON GHOST to ghost a 'image' of your drive. if anything goes wrong, u just ghost the image back

Easiest solution is to download August Autopatcher (windows updates post SP2) and keep that aside for when you reinstall windows.

As for AVG, it will be out of date (severly so and will inevitably download the whole installer in updates after 1-2 months anyway) so best to download it when you need it (the new installer) and install that before you reinstall windows.

If you dont know where to get Autopatcher, mail me, I'll give you the link

Ditch AVG.

Get something decent like K7 or ZoneAlarm.

All of them don't like to release separate virus updates because of piracy etc. If you catch the latest release at the moment it appears it will have the latest definitions.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Grisoft\Avg7Data\upd7bin

There you will find your AVG updates :)

okay say i backup that files of avg, and later install avg on the new windows installation, do i then just paste that backup files in that same directory again? Or how do i install them? And cant the same being done with windows updates?

You just use AVG's built-in update facility to update from those files (the whole "Check for Updates -> Folder thing)
