Can I connect this subwoofer

From AV receiver left channel out to left speaker, positive to positive, negative to negative. Then connect positive from one pair of cables on the sub to positive on that same speaker and negative from that same pair to negative on the same speaker.

Repeat for right channel.

Switch on and enjoy
Not quite. Speaker wire from amp to sub, then go from sub to front speakers.

I connected it up, and it sounds good. There seems to be no issues, apart from the bass being a bit high at times, when increasing the volume. I will play around with the settings to see what is best. Thanks again!
You're not filtering the HF and LF through the sub so you would be bass heavy. Connect as I explained above then check the settings on your amplifier and make sure to select the "no subwoofer" option (if available)

This does not seem to be possible, as there is no actual inputs on the sub, it only has speaker wire (2 sets) coming out of it and the power cable?

Yes, with your current setup, both the subwoofer and the speaker cabinets are receiving pretty much identical audio signals. What is inside those cabinets in the way of filters/crossovers/attenuation etc will determine what signal eventually reaches the speaker drivers. You might want to attenuate the signal going to the subwoofer if that is too dominant.

Not if it's a regular passive sub, then you must go to the sub first, but I see it's not possible in this case.

Interesting, then you have no option but to do like riscbroker said.
You may be better off buying a cheap active sub. You'll find some pretty good second hand deals on avforums on Wharfedale and the likes.

It is a powered (active) subwoofer that he has. It probably originates from a system that had dedicated outputs, or is internally adjustable for gain.

I guess it would be best to replace it in the long run, but for now I just want it to sound better than it does, because it sounds quite bad without the sub.

Open the cabinet and have a look at the circuitry inside. You may well find an adjustable potentiometer.

If not, you could ask an electronics guy what value inline potentiometer you'd need to cater for that level signal (as per the spec on your receiver/amplifier) and wire that in to the cabinet. I don't have the level of electronics experience to specify what value to use.

Since all the Audiophiles are here now, do magnets in speakers affect LED televisions? As far as I understand they do not, but will possibly affect my PS4, due to the hard disk drive that it contains, so I will try to position that rather far away. I know some speakers have Magnetic field protection to prevent it though.

Yes, at the moment I have the center speaker output free, as well as both surround speaker outputs, ie, rear speakers, as I have not hooked them up yet, I need to find proper mounting and cable layout plan for them first.

So wire your existing front speakers in and use the rear speaker outputs for the subwoofer, then you'll be able to balance out the levels.

All that's happening is that the subwoofer gets full frequency spectrum which it is then processing within the cabinet. Just start with fairly low volume level to the rear channels.

I don't want to get in an argument about speakers and subwoofers, but that's terrible advice. It means only rear/surround audio signals will be going to the subwoofer.
 
I have considered doing that, but thought that what zeb is saying will happen, however, I do not know much about these things, I mean I have set up many of these before, but without actually worrying about if its damaging the amps, as they were not very high end.
 
Cannot you reduce the level of the subwoofer? Excessive bass is extremely irritating and not at all what the recording engineers envisaged.

Extremely irritating indeed. I reduced the bass on the equaliser as much as I can, but seems that if I need to turn the volume up allot it gets high again, which makes sense I suppose.

I see the diagram on the sub mentions 3,2 ohm front speakers that's probably why it is louder than expected.
Does your amp not have a option to change the equalizer settings on the amp itself? Just turn down the lower base frequencies there and you should be fine.

What riscbroker is suggesting will work if the amp is in stereo mode only so once you add the center it wont work anymore.

Well the amp does have equaliser settings, but all I could set manually seems to be bass and treble. I set the bass all the way down. They are running in stereo at the moment, as I have not connected the back ones yet, but I might do that soon.

The amp has an aut calibration thing which requires you to plug in a microphone(provided) and it calibrates the speakers. the Manual settings seems slightly lacking, unless I am being stupid and missing them somehow.

so 3,2 ohm is actually incompatible then, as the amp states I should use 6-16?
