Can I dispute a speeding fine with the wrong charge code?

Howsit guys,

My apologies for those of you that I've annoyed. I'm new to jhb and was a student rushing for a test at the time off the offence, so I get that its wrong but at the same time I feel that we're never given any breaks so why should AARTO be given any for their mistakes.

Long story short I spoke to AARTO and they will cancel the fine due to the incorrect code being used, I just have to fill in a representation form.

Good one.

He's in Johannesburg, not Durban and it's running off of AARTO :-) might end up costing him more to fight this.

Ahhh I missed the AARTO bit.. :)

Then the only reason I'd potentially fight it, is if the code used incurs penalty points (and the penalty point system is in place)

What's to challenge, if you were doing 96 to 100 in an 80 zone, it doesn't matter if you were charged according to a tricycle, you still broke the law and the speed limit.

Sorry, I just get frustrated with this type of thread -

Speeding does not kill. If it did the OP would not get the fine because he would be dead.

Speed doesn't kill. Its incompetence and doing stupid things like being under the influence, that causes the crash that kills.
Unfortunately the METRO POLICE love the speed kills thing because it justifies their need to sit under a tree with a camera and pig out on McDonalds/KFC

True, having to stop very suddenly kills. There have been many studies where they show there is no correlation with traffic fine revenue and a reduction in road accident deaths.

Funny you mention food, the last 3 times I've been stopped at roadblocks, JMPD has asked me for food (I hadn't done anything wrong), whether it was a coke or breakfast. The last time I had a croissant, so the officer said "no thanks, we black people don't eat all these funny things". Fussy guys I must say :D
