Without losing all my files... From Vista.

U probably won't be able to access your user folder again, if u have Home edition, so back up the individual files.

You're going to have to format to get rid of Vista anyway.

And make sure u have XP SP3 handy, as well as updated virus defs etc.

When u go online the first time to update all your anti spyware etc, you don't want to be defenceless.

I have gone through six months at one stage without antivirus and a firewall on my computer (when I still supported M$ and used their crappy products) and not a single bug or virus or anything came aboard....

So we shouldn't use AV's anymore? :p

You'll usually be fine if the first thing you do is update your AV or at least download it. Just don't start msn/browsing before you're "safe".

Don't get me wrong, I think Vista is great. It's just GTA San Andreas crashes and The Witcher crashes more, and it's a mission to get DOS games to work on Vista. On XP you could just run them, but on Vista you have annoyingly load them up in dosbox and it's so tedious!

...but it looks like I'm sticking with Vista cause I have no way to back up all my files.

Should have created a dual boot setup, best of both worlds.
