Can Papi Molotsane keep Telkom pumping?

Good news for those who already have ADSL is that Telkom will soon raise its monthly bandwidth limitations - consumers' Internet usage is currently severely restricted. Molotsane says an announcement should be made within months, if not weeks. The restrictions won't be scrapped but will be "less onerous", he says.

interesting....

to stay competitive the company has to accelerate its capital expenditure programme. Telkom will spend R25bn in the next four years in building a new network based on IP, the same technology that underpins the Internet.
Boohoo poor telkom - poor us. No clue - now they have to build a whole new network??! Yes please, higher caps, yesterday - why must everything be months - but it's getting better - he said 'weeks' maybe!? Like sucking blood from a stone.

Berg wind or something remotely tangible for the consumer at last!
Please dont disappoint, try and 'delight' me.

HOLD UP! I thought Telkom didn't set bandwidth caps and it was purely in the hands of ISP's? Nice of Papi to tell us it's not the case.

I think ICASA should be made aware of this, proof that Telkom lied at the last ADSL hearings all those many moons ago...

I wonder when they will raise the caps, oh hang on, I bet it's IMMINENT!!!

Not sure about that bandwidth cap statement.. does he mean their isp will increase their cap but charge for it more? I wont be supprised if their isp does it and the price of saix resell stays the same.

I wonder if that will apply on the general bandwidth cost to all ISPs or will be a SAIX offering....

What does Papi actually mean...?

I highly doubt he means lowering the cost per GB currently charged to ISP's, but i hope im wrong. If im right then only TelkomInternet ISP will raise their caps (because obviously they dont pay per GB) and other isp's will be forced to squeeze margins even more and be even further in the toilet.

So here's customer-centric papi telling us their caps are 'onerous'.

Now let's see: Exploited, Onerous and OWNZ all in one week; disgusting company -. Elsewhere in the world they don't bother announcing things until they're done - remember vapourware??!

SA = the vapourware state

I wonder who Telkom think there are fooling, not me... not anyone here and not I suspect themselves, telling people that they will be going through hard times. BULL

The fact of the matter is that the 9% price increase for phoneline rental will net Telkom about 380 Million Rand extra a year, whereas the reduction in ADSL prices is estimated to lose them about 30 Million, and the discounts on Overseas calls about 50 - 60 Million which leaves them with about 300 Million extra profit

And why is it that they are increasing Phone Line rentals, is it because they are costing them more and that they need to make up for that loss, no... we all know why they are putting the price up, it is like everything else, a soft target
