Hi guys,

I'd appreciate it if you could help me with the following problem. I'll give a bit of background as well which may help the troubleshooting.

For about the past 4 months I have had a stable sync of 10mbps. About 2 weeks ago my router just stopped syncing. I gave Telkom a call and asked them to drop me to 8mbps, nothing. I tried 6mbps and also couldn't sync. I am currently syncing at 4mbps and these are my line stats.

D Link 2750u

Mode: ADSL_G.dmt
Type: ATM
Status: Up

Downstream Upstream
Line Coding(Trellis): On On
SNR Margin (dB): 182 120
Attenuation (dB): 280 180
Output Power (dBm): 77 28
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 10880 1104
Rate (Kbps): 4096 512
D (interleaver depth): 1 1
Delay (msec): 0.13 0.25

HEC Errors: 0 0
OCD Errors: 0 0
LCD Errors: 0 0

Total ES: 0 0

Now the strange thing is that when I deselect all other options and force the router to use g.dmt I can sync straight away. If I select ADSL 2+ I can't sync. If g.dmt and ADSL2+ are both selected as options I can't sync. I can only sync if g.dmt is the only option selected.

Last night I randomly managed to sync on ADSL 2+ and it said my attainable rate was 19mbps.

If anyone knows what is going on and what I should tell Telkom for them to rectify the problem please let me know. I've spoken to a few consultants and Telkom and they weren't sure what the problem could be.

Thanks in advance!

Do you have a G.DMT.bis or G.DMT+ option?

Try syncing with those.

Mine currently syncs at 10mbps through G.DMT.bis

Don't rely on the "Attanable rate" from the router, pretty useless.

EDIT: LOL sorry, G.DMT.bis and ADSL2+ are the same thing, stupid router

Apologies, disregard my post

Have you tried another router?

I had a router in the past that refused to sync on ADSL2+ but worked happily as a pig in the poop on G.DMT, replaced it, and all fine on ADSL2+.

Hi Kayvee,

Yip I've tried another router. It's strange because for years I've synced perfectly on ADSL 2+ it just changed overnight.

Hi

Will gladly see if we can assist, please PM your ADSL number for follow up.

Thanks so much, will PM now!

Yeah it's a strange one. Let's hope TelkomZA will get it sorted for you, good luck.

Have you tried to remove all line filters, surge protectors and telephones before attempting to connect?

Charl (TelkomZA) just sorted me out. Absolutely brilliant service! I'm sure TelkomZA will explain much better but from what I understood there were just a few incorrect settings that needed to be changed on their side to enable my line to sync on ADSL2+.

P.S. I'm now syncing at 8megs :D

Thanks for all the help!
