Canal+ on MultiChoice costs crackdown

MultiChoice's new owner, Groupe Canal+, has reportedly suspended payments to the broadcaster's suppliers and demanded 20% discounts on invoices as part of a cost-cutting exercise.

According to an insider at the broadcaster who spoke to Business Times, MultiChoice's procurement head is currently sitting with hundreds of unpaid invoices from suppliers affected by the strategy.

Imagine trying to pull an Elon Musk Twitter stunt when you can't cut DEI but actually have to push it even more.

And mainstream media fails to innovate - only doing so when forced to. I wont even call it innovation, they just copied Netflix. Where X has something new every other day.

Day passes may help but even that will be limited. Partner with more local internet/comm companies? I wonder who would be that stupid after the non payment stunt.

Canal+ didn't buy NoChoice to run it as a charity for freeloaders. They need to trim the fat. And suppliers will have to tighten their belts and make products cheaper. I wonder if this also includes DSTV installers and resellers.

I hate this management style and shrewd business tactic. You don’t force discounts when the work has already been done.
The suppliers should push for liquidation if Canal can’t pay them. Then they’ll sing a different tune.

Canal+ has more money than God.

They can pay, they are just being poeste and showing their hand

Not really.

For years Dstv chose to pay MORE to keep others OUT. They would buy extra rights to content and not use it, just so that others can't get it. Even Enca, a frikken news channel was bribe with extra fat, to be exclusive on dstv. This is was they see now.

You will see some discounts given, and dstv losing exclusivity on some content. Exclusivity that in most cases was not needed at all.

The previous CEO was in Dubai.
He probably didn't have a clue what was going on.
New broom definitely sweeping clean.

But will they still pay millions for sports rights?
