I'm trying to cancel dstv using the self service website.

The only option I see that looks remotely like cancelling is "Disconnect Packages". Is it the same thing? Will I cancel my DStv if I disconnect the Premium package and PVR access? Will this stop the debit order?

Thanks for the help.

Rather phone the call centre. Just a tip, just downgrade to the easy access R29 p/m package(SABC + ETV) If you ever decide to go back, you just upgrade and dont have to pay the re-connection fee. That is what I did, I get to watch news, and the cricket when SA are playing locally.

No, do not rely on the on line facilities if you genuinely want to terminate your DSTV services all together. The best option is to go into a DSTV office and sort it out personally.
The call centre option is probably the next best option, BUT you will battle to get the DO stopped ---- that takes some special effort.
Another option that will work is to log on to dstv's forum, and send a private message to MC Solomon, or to MCA CCS Natasha. They at least will ensure that all the steps are taken to cancel your service and get the DO to stop. Even then the most difficult step is to stop the DO.

A very good tip. Downgrade to the EasyView package (don't use the word "access" because there are other packages using that word in the package description), and convert to a yearly subscription, paid once a year because then you get one month's subscription for free. Again, the best is to arrange this downgrade with the above 2 persons on the forum.

Note that you should do the downgrade a few days before the date on which your current subscription is renewed, as downgrades can only be done once a month. Upgrades kick in on date of the upgrade, but not the reverse.

I forgot to reply to this thread. :)

I did the online disconnection where you can connect it again in the future. So basically pausing it like scienide said. I confirmed with the dstv facebook support to make sure. If it doesn't work then they'll help me sort it out.

If all goes well my dstv will stop working tomorrow and I won't get a bill.

yeah, good luck with that.

their online system is designed to keep you as a subscriber not to pause or cancel. Your dstv will stop, but be rest assured the bills will continue at which point theyll encourage you to reactivate to cover for the unauthorized debit.

Thats been my experience trying to downgrade with these clowns.

Well the support guys said if I have any problems then I can contact them. It's publicly visible posts. So I'm hoping for the best.

Will let you guys know how it went.

Bleh, so it didn't work. You guys were all correct. Let this be a warning for other people, don't be as stubborn as me.

I've contacted their facebook team to have a look now.

Bah, no need for complications I sent then one email and received notification that I'm now disconnected.

It is not the disconnection that is the problem, it is getting the charges sorted that is.

That does seem to be the problem. Currently the website is showing that I have no packages but it shows that I owe them money.

The disconnect option via the self service portal works just fine for me. After the disconnection date you will see the full month's charge showing under your balance. Then every day that passes the amount will become less until you hit the end of the month and your balance will be zero.

Awesome thanks. I did not know that.

I've downgraded my package to the easy view at R29 which I want to keep, but I'm still getting charged for PVR on-top of that, how do I go about removing the PVR option online? Will I loose Al my recordings?
