Cancelled my dstv today

Can you downgrade over the net or do you have to contact multichoice?

Ditto, emailed them on Tuesday:

I want to downgrade all my subscriptions to EasyView, how do I do this as there is no option on Self Service
.
... and got a automated response saying someone would contact me, nothing yet :(

I'm moving to TopTV for a while to:

a) vent my displeasure with their constant repeats and lack of decent new programming.

b) encourage the introduction of a non-sport bouquet with PVR/Xtraview and all the Premium channels below 200 priced at about R300/mth

there is a website in SA where you can buy xbox, pc games copied, cant remember what it's called.

Are there no websites where you can buy series etc. downloaded stuff?

Go on Gumtree and do a search. Lots of entrepeneurs on there...you can buy downloaded movies and series for as little as R2 / gig. Or so I've heard;)

I did it by phone. Took 15 minutes.
NB - IF you have xtraview, you need to go to the xtraview help options to do this, as the 'normal' accounts people are unable to update your account.

I've got EasyView plus PVR - works out to R85pm. There's actually some decent stuff on free to air, just not always at the times that suit me. The PVR solves that problem :)

Plus, I upgrade to premium for a couple of days from time to time (normally when there's a big game on) and then record EVERYTHING. That gives me ample viewing material for the next while :D

truly interesting, what does those "temp upgrades" cost you? also are you with mweb, or do you think that you are able to stream from SS because you still have an active account?

I did not cancel, but rather downgraded to Select 1 (to take the pressure off my 384 line :) ).

I will probably be downgrading/cancelling after the olympics myself.. the subs are getting to the point of being ridiculous, and its almost cheaper now to go the pub to watch a few big games. (INCLUDING booze)

The upgrade is calculated on a pro-rata rate so, with the new prices it'll be R590/31=R19pd (depending on how many days there are that month). You can downgrade without penalty once per month. I've never linked my DSTV account with an MWEB account at all, so I don't think that has anything to do with it. I think, like you said, my account is active on the DSTV system so they let me login to watch supersport :)

If you signup for Easyview and pvr, do you still get "catchup" ?

I watch DSTV mostly on weekends, so I have devised a weekends-only SD only package as follows, would this work?

Buy another 3 standard decoders at R400 each, total R1200.
Each decoder is by default on Easyview. Each Friday-Sunday, upgrade one of the decoders to premium. Alternate the decoders so that only 1 per month is upgraded/downgraded for free.
Cost for premium viewing, Fridays-Sundays only, 3 days * 4 weeks * (R590/31) = R228 per month
Cost to keep other decoders on Easyview: (31-12) days /31 days * R20 * 3 decoders = R37 per month
Total subscription cost per month: R265

So that’s 55% cheaper, but you still get to see all the weekend sport and if you record say to a HDD recorder you can “cache” enough entertainment to last you for the week days.

The saving per month is R325 and the initial "investment" of the extra decoders are payed off in under 4 months.

That's the thing. I and probably every other guy in SA are really paying all of this money every month for the sport. If they'd only chuck M-net into one of the cheaper packages and we had access to the Saffer S15 games, the Boks and the odd big English premiership games it wouldn't be so bad. Even for 3 or 400 a month.

They recently removed all traces of sport from Mnet.

Good plan.the only drawback is having to call them 8 times a month to their pathetic answering service or can it be done online.
Does this mean you have to have 4 separate accounts?
Do all the decoders connect to one dish?

Interesting.. seems a bit of a bother though :/

I would like to downgrade my premium but unfortunatly seems like you can only get M-Net and BBC Entertainment on Premium.

AFAIK you can call them for the upgrade and ask them to schedule the downgrade date.
I have 2 decoders, but I get one consolidated account.
With a single LNB you will have to swop the LNB connection, but if you have a 4 way switch it's just a matter of powering up the right decoder. Depending on your tv or media station's number of inputs, you won't have to swop those connections too much either, or just use a gamer's switch you get at SPAR for cheap.

Apparently not, at least not if you have Xtraview, I was told by the call centre this morning that I cannot schedule my downgrade as it is activated as she processes it. This will apparently generate a pro-rata credit for the remaining days in my billing period. According to her I should downgrade when TopTV is installed and she will calculate my O/S balance on that date (credit less 2 * Easyview subscriptions).

I dealt with Ludoma at first who informed me that once you have Xtraview your subscription(s) are controlled by the Xtraview department which is also why I couldn't downgrade on-line via the My Services option.

All in all a pleasant experience and I got through immediately on the DSTV Telkom no for PE.

They scheduled my cancellation for me. I am on xtraview. I'm not sure why it would be different for downgrades?

Seemed strange to me as well but she (I didn't catch her name) was adamant that's the way it is. Anyway, by my calculations, I score one free EasyView mthly sub for each day remaining in my billing period after TopTV do their install :)
