I am not on a contract. If I cancell at the end of January will I still have to pay for February? Is there any month notice I must give before cancelling?

Will the best way to do this be to go into a Telkomdirect shop and cancell it there or do it over the telephone?

I'm moving soon, I dont want cancel my adsl line, but I must admit, Im rather nervous over this Telkom issue. Its going to cost me more than the actual removals. Sorry I cant help you, but if you find out anything, please post it here in this thread.

Yes Im also moving but wont be able to afford adsl for the moment. I am going to sort this out on Monday I will keep you updated.

I phoned Telkom and informed them that I want to cancel my phone connection and my ADSL.
They told me I only need to call on the day that I want the service terminated and they will action it then and there!
I asked if I need to give them notice and they said no.
Will have to wait and see.

Same thing when I cancelled my phone line. No notice needed, it was immediate. Don't know about ADSL though.

If you intend reconnecting ADSL, perhaps it's a good idea to ask Telkom to suspend your service for (2? 4?) months or whatever. Also tel them you are moving - maybe they have specials on reconnections or installations for clients that are moving house. They do from time to time, but usually don't advertise it very well.

Thanks sunsoffun I will wait for your feedback. Thing is I move into my new place at the1st of March and dont want to still sit with a Telkom bill of R800 for dsl Im not using anymore.

Just got back from the Telskum shop -

1. If you are moving to the same area, linking you to the same exchange, then they will just transfer your line.

2. If you are moving to a different area, you will need to cancel then re-apply for an new adsl account.

Something I could have told you, before even going there.

Has response times gotten better for adsl installations?

wisecrack, u can can cancel, i did when i moved...right its end jan u just paid u'r acc. That acc was for calls in jan, and line for Feb. Now when u cancel, u will be credited since u'r ADSL line was cut and till the day u paid.

So if u paid in advanced u will be credited for the remaining days....they did so with me anyway.

Well, it was all to good to be true.
As with anything at Telkom, the one hand doesn't know WTF the other is doing at anyone time.
When the time came to cancel last month, sitting in an empty house I made the calls, only to be told that I needed to fax the ADSL cancellation, a phone call wasn't going to cut it contrary to what they told me in the beginning of the month.
Typical.

f@%$#ng palooka's

And the joy just continues with the Telkom f#$%@&g idiots.

I am now sitting with 2 telkom bills, one for my old residence and one for my new, both charging me full rentals for dsl and phone for the same periods despite me cancelling the service on the old residence timeously.

I could honestly strangle someone today, their incompetence knows no boundaries.

F@#k it gets better.
They reckon I must pay the almost R900, and they will credit me later , despite the fact that I cancelled everything and never used what they are askingme to pay for.

So now if I dont pay I get blacklisted by the scum of the earth. I refuse to pay it.

This together with the new bill for over R2000 for installation and god knows what else.

and try and phone 10210 to speak to them and nothing, dead. beeeeeeeeeeeep beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep,,,,, customer centric my arse
They would probably argue thaat they have a high call volume to that number, heres a thought, stop retrenching.
strewth I going mad here.

edit: and guess what, my new account has been shamelessly double billed for installation and adsl rental. Query has been put through.

sorry, i am ranting i know, but wtf
