Hi all,

I'm finally getting fiber so soon streaming will be an option.

What Android streaming tv box should I look at? That Nvidia shield looks fancy but at R4000 - eeek.

I really want something that works well so if that means R4k then so be it...
What do you guys suggest?

Thank you in advance.

Xiaomi Mi TV Box is good, it support dstv now and netflix also.

I personally use apple tv as i got free with ebucks.

I'd get the Xiaomi Mi ... right now I'm using a Roku that's great too, so it'd just be for a change.

Just remember some apps only work (unless your root or something else) with Android TV. Android TV is not Android, it's also to do with the lovely Widevine DRM or something.

The Xiaomi Mi box and Nvidia Shield are true Android TV so Netflix won't have an issue on them.

How are the Rokus in general in this country. I take it only a few apps/channels work?
Yeah, if you've got a VPN you can unlock everything, but I don't even bother with a VPN ... the four channels I use are Netflix, YouTube, Reuters News and RedBull Sports :D Plenty of content!

Canceled my Dstv as well using Apple TV to stream Epic Tv all the entertainment you need

Any idea where I get one? Takealot doesn't seem to stock them and a quick Google on my phone doesn't really bring back options... I would like the S version...

Ive got both Roku and Fire 4K, brand new in box , if you interested.

I’m based in centurion for quick and easy pickup ;)

I recently got a Roku and I have set it up with smart DNS proxy. I have a number of apps on my box, which includes Netflix, Hulu, CBS, Amazon and showtime subs. I really love the Roku Nd how it works.

One downfall is that the Roku cannot be accessed and so setting up the smartdns has to be done on the router and not on the Roku itself. So is not as easy to setup as android boxes.

If you ok for your router to run the DNS and take the time to setup the box, the Roku is an excellent option.

I am actually considering getting two Roku sticks to run on my other tv's

That's not bad at all. My only issue is that I don't want to pay for Hulu, Amazon as well etc so it might be a waste. I only use Netflix, and hardly consume that much TV anyway.

Please can you help me out - I've signed up for Smart DNS - I have a Roku stick - my Netflix on my Roku is now US after I logged out and logged back in again - however I cant find Amazon in the list of streaming channels at all
Its as if the Roku stick is still locked on SA or something

How did you get it right to get Amazon on the Roku stick ?

My understanding of it an what may have caused the issue for you is below

Did you create a roku account?

Generally what you will need to do is create a Roku account and when you create the Roku account ensure that you use a VPN for whichever country you want the account to be in. So I did mine for the US.

Roku attached all of the apps that you purchase on that account and it basically set up for that area (I used this address generator (https://www.fakeaddressgenerator.com/World/us_address_generator ) to give me an address telephone number etc. using the generator helps because it ensures your ZIP code and telephone numbers all match.

If you registered your Roku account without a VPN and using your South African address it will only allow you for apps based in South Africa. you are lucky because netfix is based in south africa and if you followed the setup guide on smartdns proxy then you should have all the setup required to access the netflix US database.

The only way I can see you rectifying the issue is by resetting your Roku ad then opening another Roku account as I have explained above and then attaching the Roku to that account to download the apps.

You can try this guide from Tom's hardware (If I remember correctly this is what I followed when I set mine up)

https://forums.tomsguide.com/faq/how-to-create-a-us-roku-account-when-outside-the-country.203691/

Good luck I hope it works out for you because the Roku is a bitch to setup compared to android boxes but it is a damn nice streaming device.
