**** Cancer

I don't know where else to post but it looks like one of my bosses is losing his battle with cancer. Chemo/radiation/ some experimental drugs... he tried everything. It was stage 4 esophageal cancer and after a year of treatment it cleared...only for a few days after hoping he was cleared they found it in his stomach (apparently his oncologist said he is the second person that this happened too from my understanding). He is truly the friendliest and nicest/funny guy. I don't know the whole story but he is now refusing to go to hospital and is in pain... his liver is pushing his stomach and thats all I know for now :crying: I don't think his body could take anymore treatment anymore. I hope for a miracle.

Doesnt sound good unfortunately. My Ex-wife (who i have a daughter with) was diagnosed in January.
Her liver was pushing against the stomach and got so swollen so quickly, it almost looked like she was pregnant.
She passed away 41 days after diagnosis and the last 2 weeks were hell for her, liver toxicity caused hallucinations and she was not lucid that often, mostly slept when she could find a comfortable way to lie down, could hardly eat because it was so uncomfortable.
Incredibly strong person, but the pain must have been really bad, because she moved to the "ready" to move on stage pretty quickly.

Hoping for the best for him and his family and that his prognosis is not as grim, its not the most pleasant process

This breaks my heart. Cancer is such horrible disease.

I lost someone last year from brain cancer (second mother really when I was small). She didn't tell anyone about her diagnosis, we and her kids only fund out when she was in hospital in the final stages. Very strong woman and the only reason I think she kept it to herself was not to let people worry about her... that was her personality. Obviously I can't speak for her and possible other reasons why she didn't tell anyone :crying: But man... it was so fast... not even a week in hospital she was gone.

Sorry for your loss.

If I think of the harsh suffering family went through with the big C, I think I'd prefer it to be over quickly

quite a few people dying with cancer lately

sad thing is its like a life sentence for most
Ye, I don't know if its my age or that there is actually an increase in the amount of people getting sick.

My cousin died last year, colon cancer. They found it too late.
Her brother got checked and they found something and were able to intervene early.
My mother in law had breast cancer early on in life and now just got two different cancers one after the other. Not going well with the latest one, she is almost 70.
Then a few extended family members have died in the last year or so of cancer, all older relatives.
Pretty much all my aunts and uncles are getting skin cancer treatment in some way or another.

So this year i'm getting someone to stick their fingers up my arse, and someone else to give me a facial....

We all had to try find the positives. She got to say goodbye to our daughter and the rest of us and friends, she got to hear our kid play her piano exam piece, She had time to just get things in order, as you said, there can be a lot of suffering, and at least hers wasnt very long.
I still sit with the anger that she wasnt even given a chance to fight, there were no symptoms up until a week before diagnosis, and then it was terminal with weeks left, its probably a little selfish wanting that I guess.

Its a crap disease and I couldnt agree more with the thread title

I started a thread last year after reading about Sir Chris Hoy and his battle with prostate cancer...

I thought it a good idea to get checked out even though all was hunky dory and nothing was presenting itself.

Long story short, since posting I had two high(ish) PSA tests that said there may be an issue, so I had a biopsy and then an MRI that confirmed I had early stage prostate cancer and on Friday past I had Brachytherapy. 58 radioactive pellets inserted into my prostate.

BUT, it's been caught early, it's treatable and it should go away in the next few weeks.

Get the test, NOW.

How much weight has he lost so far?

I know cancer in that area makes eating very hard. Patients lose so much weight because they simply cant eat (nevermind the effect of treatment)

I think he was in the 100kg or more and last I heard he was 70kg

:(

I have a friend going through the same. He was also around 100kg and is around 65kg now.

This with the tumor in the stomach reduced, but the oesophagus issues are so bad eating is basically impossible.

It's messed up man. My friends sisters husband (they literally just got married!) Died from colon cancer in his early 30s... around 30/31. Open casket funeral.... seeing how thin he was shocked me a tad.
