**** Cancer

I'm booked for a parotidectomy end of the month, hopefully then I'll never have to deal with this crap again. I'm gaining quite a lot of respect for Emam others that has gone through worse than this, I can't even imagine the stress.
I'm so sorry you're going through this... I'm holding thumbs for the best results for you. DM me if you want to chat x

Thank you, I'll definitely take you up on that.

Back in 2006 I done the whole working holiday thing in the UK. I was placed with another guy at the time, and we met at OR Tambo while waiting to board the plane. I was 19, he was 18, fresh out of high school. We both came back to SA in 2007, and he went to a culinary school, beginning a career as a chef that took him to the US for a number of years before returning to SA and settling down in the WC where he set up his own little mobile kitchen. We drifted out of touch over the years but would occasionally chat via Facebook.

In June of this year his wife posted that he had been diagnosed with Stage 4 renal cancer. This past Saturday, I logged onto Facebook and saw a post from his wife that he had passed away last week. It wasn't even 4-months. He was 38 and had only just got married last year, leaving behind a young son as well.

This cancer is a MFer.

Geez, that is proper scary. My mother had 3 years from diagnosis to the end. Also the reason I've been pro-active with seeking medical attention. I think for many the problem is late diagnosis.

2017

My mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer and given 2 months to live, she fought and lived for 3 months, her lungs and surrounding organs were completely covered with cancer that her lung collapsed. They removed the lung for her to atleast be comfortable as she was suffering being unable to sleep due to her lungs filling up with fluid.

Combination of septicaemia and cancer is what killed her.

2019

My older brother age 45 was diagnosed with lymphoma and underwent treatment and recovery was successful. However the cancer had left a residual infection in his lung and then contracted COVID in 2020 which in turn put him into a coma and he suffered a stroke on his right side and is unable to read and write and needs medical assistance having a **** or bathing.

2025

I went to the GP yesterday as now I’m pissing like a racehorse, prostate calcification and blood coming out occasionally. Doc put me on penicillin and told me I need more tests as psa levels are higher than normal. I have to wait for next year as my medical aid is finished for now. Will have to do all these rather pricey scans in the new year.

Good times ahead.

Oh and I haven’t told the wife as she will have a meltdown so I need to break it to her slowly lol.

I'm sorry about all of that, but try to make a plan if you can. 2 months can be make a big difference in terms of treatment.

I'm also financially well screwed as my wife lost her job last year and we've been circling the drain ever since, I've also had to pay quite a lot so far to the point where I'm more stressed about moola than the problem, but you only have one body, please take care of yourself. Talk to your wife and see if you can make a plan.

I was shocked by the time frame. Hyper aggressive.

EDIT: Noting another comment of yours, it seems like you have had a rough time of it both health and finance wise. Strongs, brother.

Thanks, it has been a rough year. But I'll be fine, just need to get the operation over. I'm going in on the 27th and after that this whole thing will hopefully be behind me.

Hope the wait till the 27th is not too strenuous for you and that the operation goes better than expected.

An added burden you don't need. Did Bonitas give a reason for the delay?

Nothing, they just sent a mail saying they processing it, I will call again this morning.

Hopefully they've got all the information they need. In my experience they're the medical aid is usually waiting for all the codes from healthcare professional.
