I’m having trouble getting DSTV Now app to connect to my Explora decoder. At page “Login to TV” it asks for 6 digits that are displayed on TV. But no digits show up so can’t proceed.

You can't connect it to your explora, Showmax you can though provided your explora is connected to the internet with the wifi connecter thingy. DSTV Now is the online version of DSTV with live channels and a focus on catch up. It is linked to your package though by what content it will have (you will have the same live channels as on the decoder and an extended catch up catalogue). It works by using the internet (data) for streaming and not the satellite. If you have the DSTV Now app on your smart tv and your smart tv is connected to the internet (uncapped preferred here) and you get to the screen where you get the code question do the following: Download the Android / iOS app for DSTV Now on your phone, login with your DSTV connect id and password you used to register for DSTV Now, go to settings and tap the field that says connect your TV or other device. It will then display the code you have to enter into your TV. You do however need to link your smartcard number to your connect id otherwise you'll just get the free news channels. Hope this clears it up for you and that you come right with your setup!

Thanks for your detailed reply. The last step is the issue: no code ever shows up on my tv! I am clearly linked correctly as all my account details show up on the app, it's only the Remote Control that won't connect. When I go into Settings on the Explora everything, including Connectivity Check, comes up with green checkmarks showing all is ok. Explora definitely online, as is my phone & app, the problem is for some reason when I click on "Login to My TV" in the app setup no 6-digit code is displayed on my tv (or any tv, I have 4 connected, one with HDMI and 3 through a splitter to the RF output. So both outputs (RF or HDMI) don't work.

Forget about the Explora... it plays no role . Confirm that your TV has internet access.

/update - removed app comments as you already have done that

The code will show on your phones DSTV Now app in the settings on the field I detailed in my previous reply...but I think you are misunderstanding how the DSTV Now app works maybe? It has nothing to do with the explora. It works the same as Netflix for example. It is an app on your smart tv that uses your internet connection to stream the content. Thats it. When you link your smart card to your connect id it will then determine which channels and catch up content you will receive within the app. It is exactly the same as the app on your phone only resized for your tv screen

^^^ this says the following.

How to install the new DStv Now app for your smart TV
  1. Connect your smart TV to the internet using ethernet cable or Wi-Fi
  2. Go to the App Store on your TV, search for “DStv Now”, and install the app
  3. Once installed, the app will display a code on your TV screen
  4. On a laptop/desktop, go to now.dstv.com and sign in
  5. Once signed in, go to now.dstv.com/tv and enter the code displayed on the TV, then click on the “Sign in on TV” button
  6. The app will now be live on the TV
Seems there's confusion as to where the code will be displayed.

You might also be confusing DSTV Now and the Catch Up Plus and Showmax features on the explora. If you went and bought the wifi connector for the explora you are then able to connect your explora to the internet to access Catch Up Plus (which is just more content on catch up) and you can then also login to your Showmax account from the explora to have it available on your explora instead of using the tv app (if your tv is a smart tv)

Yes, you can also access the code with these steps. But I just find it easier through the android / iOS app that is why I recommended it. I think OP is maybe confusing DSTV Now with the Catch Up Plus / Showmax service on the explora

OP is correct. You can link the DSTV Now app to your explora, that way you can set up remote recordings from the App when you’re not home.

Provided that your connect id is linked with the smartcard of the decoder and the decoder is connected to the DSTV Wifi Connecter and that to your internet this is one of the features of the DSTV Now app yes. He might also want to control the DSTV Now app with his decoder remote which will not be possible at all. All depends on what exactly OP is trying to do here? OP please clarify?

Apologies, I have it the other way around. The code will display on the tv and you then use your DSTV Now phone app / the website to enter the code to link your tv app.

If it is not displaying on the DSTV Now app for smart tv, try updating the app (make sure your tv is connected to the internet). If you open the app on tv it is the second screen it shows (one with the code) right after the splash screen

The remote recording hasn't worked for months, prior to be disabled by DSTV. You also didn't need the app , you could do it directly from the online TV guide, but you could do it via the app as well.

That's the problem, per your step 3, no code is ever displayed on my TV screen

That is what I am trying to do, for exactly the reason: to start a remote recording if not home - I sometimes forget to set a future recording of a show.

Why are they abandoning this feature, do you know the reason as they will not comment

They seemingly had trouble with the functionality on the newer models (iirc) , and instead of trying to fix it , just removed it. They will not comment, since they don't like be criticized... so much so that they've closed down their official user forums and just point everyone to Twitter or Facebook.
