Canon 70D

Barring any major problems/issues this is definitely my upgrade from my 550D. Can't wait. :)

Seems like a solid update - not a bad little consumer level camera. Not sure why they continue to limit the number of AF points to 19 though.

Coming from 1 cross-type and 8 normal AF points the 70D's 19 cross-types sure looks great. :D

Trying to keep something in the tank for the 7D MKII maybe?

Maybe, but there already are enough other differences that make the 7D more attractive than the 60/70D, to me at least. Canon just seems to be a bit stingy on the number of AF points, particularly on their lower end cameras and mind boggling stingy on the 6D. :wtf:

Because Canon users are accustomed to using focus-and-recompose ;)

No, I'm just used to the 61 points my camera has. ;)

Just spoke to Canon h/o ... The 70D is planned for release end July 2013 to mid Aug 2013 at +-R12k (ex VAT) (exchange rate dependent)

Did they put back the PC Sync port? I don't see it mentioned in the article. I guess between that and the 98% viewfinder, there must be a 7DmkII in the works :)

I'm looking forward to see what this sensor does. They've stuck with the 18MP for quite a while now, so that was plenty of time to work on a new sensor. I hope they finally get rid of the red banding...

Do people still use that?

I have an immense hard-on for this camera, for all intent and purposes looks to be the perfect enthusiast option.

Was hoping for a R12k-ish price point, but given the Rand's weakness it is not realistic.

If you're heavily into video I think I understand the hype but other than that???

Funny you say that - a huge photography enthusiast mate of mine told me the exact same thing. It got me thinking a bit and now I am not interested in it anymore. It is still a great all rounder imo ... but I am getting my new toy on Friday ........
