Canon 70D

Do people still use that?

I do. But mostly because I use off-camera flash so infrequently that I'm too cheapskate to invest in wireless triggers.

I am seriously thinking of selling my 580EX II and getting a 600 EX RT though - then I can use the built-in wireless for off-camera flash. It's pricey though.

What body do you have now then?

5DmkIII - so no pop-up flash to trigger an off-camera flash. The 270 EX can't do it either as far as I know, but I don't like that method anyway.

So you'd need the 600 EX RT as well as a trigger unit?

No, the 5DmkIII has wireless (radio) built in, and so does the 600 EX RT.
How sure are you of that?

As part of the radio triggering functions, the Speedlite 600EX-RT can also be used to trigger the camera wirelessly. When using the Speedlite 600EX-RT with either the EOS-1D X or EOS 5D Mark III DSLRs, the trigger control will be sent through the hotshoe contacts of the slave flashgun mounted on the camera. As with earlier models, the accessory cable, SR-N3 attaches to the side of the flashgun and plugs into the N3 connector on the side of the camera. This allows you to trigger a camera remotely from up to 30m away without needing any further bulky accessories.

If you’ve a 600EX-RT and a Canon EOS 1Dx or 5D Mark III you cannot control your flash without using another 600EX-RT or the ST-E3 transmitter on the camera.

EDIT: I'm not jealous if it's actually compatible. I'm more than happy with my PocketWizard PlusX's - in fact I just had my mother pick up a third from B&H for me. :)

If you're heavily into video I think I understand the hype but other than that???

I'm itching for an upgrade. What I like -

- new sensor technology
- 19 cross points AF
- articulating screen
- wifi
- MA (probably not that important, but always wanted this after a dog of a 50 1.8 :))

Remember I'm coming from a 550D. What would you suggest?

Not sure enough, apparently. Looks like I need the WT-E3-RT. Maybe I misread things when this was launched. I thought the WT-E3-RT was for earlier cameras that do not have the wireless function built in.

Hey, it's your camera - get what's going to meet your needs. Personally I skipped the whole XXD range because it didn't meet my needs.

Bummer - though I would have been surprised if your 5D had it and my 1D didnt! :p

I don't see much in the 7D extra that I need - speaking as an enthusiast of course. Not interested in FF at all.

I'm not in the market for either, but once you've gotten used to 100% viewfinder coverage, it's hard using a camera that has less...

Just pulled the trigger on a 70D body-only pre-order with Orms. R12,695 which isn't bad given the Rand, SA premium etc.

Expected mid-Sep...can't wait. :D

Thanks guys! Bought from Orms.

Already feels like a major upgrade from 550D, ergonomics, buttons, AF etc - and this after only playing for a few shots. Charging battery atm, can't wait to dig in properly. :)
