Canon Eos 1300d vs Canon 2000D

Guys! The MiddlebornMoose is stoked with her camera and is already taking some nice HQ snaps, she has asked me to ask you knowledgeable folk in here what PC software would you suggest or use for photo editing?

Cheers!

Depends on what type of editing she wants to do.

As she is dipping her toes, I suggest she try these free apps first before spending $$ on others. She can learn the concepts and if she requires the most professional apps then can go for the Adobe apps.

  • As a starting point, use Canon Digital Photo Professional 4. It is free and quite powerful at adjusting levels on RAW images and then convert to jpeg.
  • Gimp is great for image manipulation, but not very learner friendly. Still sometimes its nice being thrown in the deep end.
  • Irfanview is great for quick cropping, resizing, watermarking, etc. And has a very powerful batch resizing/conversion option.

Yup, the Canon software is pretty good. The Tamron stuff that you get with a Tamron lens as well.
Otherwise, you can get a Photoshop + Lightroom subscription for ~R150 per month, although that is a bit tough to swallow if you don't use it regularly.

If she's shooting raw format then Canon's own conversion software, DPP, is probably the best place to start, especially at the price point.

If she's shooting JPG then she'll want something like photoshop. I say like because there are cheaper options available to Photoshop, like Affinity Photo, that will will do what she needs.
