Canon PowerShot G1 X

Looks good ... I was going to recommend the S100 instead because it's a fair amount chaper, but that G1X has a huge sensor and probably the better choice if you have the money

It looks like a great camera. But at the price, I have difficulty imagining buying it instead of an entry-level DSLR.

But if you're after the form factor, the Powershot G series have been excellent. I still have and still use my G9 when I want a pocket camera.

Hey Dolby, yes, a huge sensor that is nearly the same size than a DSLR.

Yes, size matters for my specific application, I need something light and easy to operate. The G1X have a huge amount of manual settings...

My vice of choice but not su much as when I was young.

It does. With the G9, I had everything I needed (within the form factor limitations) except one: On my DSLR, popping the flash in Tv, Av or M mode, it will do fill flash. On the G9, it doesn't do that at all. And in manual flash mode, it's low, medium or high - no 1/2 or 1/3 stop flash exposure compensation. I don't know if this holds true for the G1X - I really really hope not.
