I have been trying to connect here at the office. I get around 13% signal with a RSCP of -92dBm and a ISCP of -99 dBm, yet, it continuously fails to connect to tower 102 (I am in Bryanston, so I presume this is the Sentech Fourways base station). The BIOS version of my modem is 4.2.1.1.

Here is the log from MySignal (3.2):

02:48:22 PM - Modem Initializing
02:48:24 PM - Modem Initialized
02:48:28 PM - User Connecting to Tower: 102 @ 13%
02:48:28 PM - Connecting to server
02:48:29 PM - Device Connected
02:48:51 PM - Authenticating Username/Password
02:48:51 PM - The PPP link control protocol was terminated.
02:48:51 PM - Disconnecting
02:48:53 PM - Disconnected

And from Sentech's dialler:

Port has been opened successfully.
Connecting device...
All devices connected.
Authentication required.
Authentication is progress...

Reason: Loss of coverage - please improve modem signal

Before I bought the modem, someone came around to demo the system and connected just fine from the exact spot I am in now. So, surely the signal strength is ok?

Advice would be appreciated, thanks.

I have managed to improve my signal to 18%, RSCP of -88dBm and a ISCP of -92 dBm, but still can't connect. [:(]

On a related note, when I fire up MySignal, I see no activity at all on the MySignal tab (no signal strength, no tower info, nada). Note I have not connected (I understand this info in not available once you connect)..

Upgrade to 3.3
When in the MySignal tab, you need to click on the "Yellow Telephone" to connect to the modem.

Maybe try some of TheRodent's tweaks as well.

I have consulted with Sentech support regarding my inability to connect. The support person suggested that the problem lies in me having more than one TCP/IP connection on the machine (my machine is on a LAN too), even though I disconnected the LAN connection when trying to connect to MyWireless. I think this conclusion was drawn from the error message I am getting ('The PPP link control protocol was terminated'). He suggested that I use DR TCP to tweak my network settings.

All this sounds a bit implausible to me. Does anyone else out there have a similar problem. This is really starting to frustrate me.

When connecting to the modem it goes via the USB port.
I have Adsl on my ethernet via a LAN to my server and MyWireless on USB and I connect to both at the same time although everything happens via USB except my email first tries USB then gets it via Adsl which is its default.

The latest on my connection problems, according to customer support, is that there is no coverage at the location I'm at; even though:

1. I have 4 lights, with 22% signal

2. Someone demoed the system to me at this exact location a few weeks ago, and connected fine

Apparently the tower that my modem is seeing (102, which I presume is Fourways as I'm in Bryanston) is not active yet. Also, when I had the demo here, the person (who was a beta tester) may have been connecting to a tower that was only active during beta testing.

Does any of this make sense??

Hi,

I'm in Maroeladal, and I connect to 102 (Sentech Fourways)
It works fine. Maybe they installed a new tower on 102 aswell somewhere in Bryanston?

Anyone in Magaliessig connecting to the service already ?

I get 'partial covergage' signal on the sentech webstite, I am holding thumbs i'll be able to connect.

4 lights? Strange.. Have managed to connect it on 1 light. Just try do it like 6 times in a row.

Very funny Scotty. Now beam down my pants!!

pmik: i had exactly the same problem for 2 days after i got my modem. This is with base station 12 btw. Every now and then it did manage to pickup base station 82, which worked fine. Also brought a friend's modem and it tested fine the week before. I probably phoned sentech about 50 times but it finally started working. Guess i tired them out.

yep, I've been trying, over and over
always the same error:

'The PPP link control protocol was terminated'.

except once, I got

'The Remote Computer did not repond' or something like that.

once the connection gets dropped, it takes a while to re-establish the signal, but once it does, it's strong (22%)

not a happy camper right now [:(]

it must be a problem with the base station. I got home oneday and tried to connect and it worked, without changing anything on my pc.

I CONNECTED!!! HA HA HA! [:D]

It seems that the first attempt always fails with a 'PPP Connection failed' type message, then all the lights yellow lights go off on my modem. If I then try again immendiately, it connects.

I guess the Sentech helpdesk was wrong.

/me is happy as a pig in poo
