Can't play games with Afrihost

TY sir did not even know about gridhost. Dont like webafrica much. Going to see how the trial for gridhost goes.

Gridhost is a sub of Webafrica  They use to be a company providing web hosting in Texas, but now it's WebAfrica. So all-in-all you are dealing with Internet Solutions.

Has anyone sent an SMS to their support number and actually received a call from them afterward?
I sent 2 already.

I can definitely confirm this. I'm on 10mbps FTTH using AH capped account. I bought BF1 (No local servers) on black friday. I chose the server with lowest latency, and I was averaging 300ms with my AH acc. Did all the reset router and modem etc etc and nothing worked. I then used a free webafrica account, and my ping dropped to like 160 avg - not even kidding. In AH defence, I haven't had any issues with their network other than trying to game.

I'm not sticking up for Afrihost and don't know how BF1 servers work but are you sure you connected to the same server, it sounds like you connected to one in Europe and one in America with 160ms and 300ms. Ping is calculated on the distance to the servers so unless Webafrica is connecting through a much shorter route you shouldn't see much difference in pings.

Jip I'm sure. Was playing with friends, changed ISP mid game. At the moment with EA not having any local bf1 servers, the only playable servers are European ones. So I totally avoid US servers. I completely understand what you're saying though, and it would be the logical explanation, but I'm not hating on AH either, just stating what happened. Maybe something with their internal network idk, funny enough, the friends i was playing with are on crystalweb uncapped with a horrible 2mbps adsl line (which they share) and they had about 200ms ping when I had the 300ms. So 2mbps adsl vs 10mbps ftth on the same server with 100ms difference, def had to be an issue with afrihost. Only conclusion i could make.

Are you playing during the afternoon? My afrihost account works well in the morning and really late at night.

No, I have the same, posted in the Afrihost feedback thread. 190ms in the morning, come 5pm I have 290-350ms ping until midnight.

Can now confirm this, played at 3pm, 160odd latency, playing at this current moment, 344ms. Friend who's on 2mbps adsl is getting 190 on crystalweb. I have 344 on fibre. Not cool.

Can confirm this. Getting > 300 ms to blizzard EU, makes it unplayable when doing ranked. I've always had < 200 ms with Afrihost, this has started about a two weeks ago, but I thought there might be something on my end which was interfering, or a Telkom issue.

I've signed up for a trial crystal web account, will test this later this evening.

In my support ticket I've specifically asked them to confirm or deny that they have a problem, the reply I get is "reboot your router". I can see why they're dropping down the ranks in terms of Customer support. I've been with them since 2012, if they don't resolve this by today I'm switching over.

@AfriGenie Can you confirm this perhaps. Support ticket is #ICS-234-43113

Thanks.

The title refers to specifically with Destiny on Xbox One, but happens with a lot of games as well.

The connection is absolutely terrible!

I barely hold a connection, I lag like crazy, I can't even do a party chat with a bunch of friends without being disconnected every 10 minutes!

I checked client zone and I'm not getting shaped or throttled in any way.

I'm using their ADSL service.

If there is any other ISP that I can use for gaming, please let me know, cause I am sick of Afrihost!

Hi there

I got your post on our official thread, but sorry that you're having this poor experience.

We are seeing reports of increased latency on international games, and our team are trying to replicate these reports so we can troubleshoot further. Hopefully we'll see improvement tonight and over the weekend as the latest changes take effect.
