I cannot stop drinking this festering alcohol. It is honestly a crazy problem. For the past decade and a half or so I've been trying.

I am not a crazy drunk, or anything extreme - But when my depression starts really kicking me in the teeth, I turn to alcohol to as it offers a temporary escape (with pretty bad consequences for my short term future mental health).

Anyhow, not a pity party. It's been two days now, and I am posting this as a personal reminder.

Of course I do this with new year coming up...

Feck.

I have seen a few studies of the depression alcohol causes. You drink to get a break and then you get depressed because you drink.

I've been turning to vodka to calm my nerves as well, I am depressed as well due to my social anxiety. Alcohol the only thing that works, been on subscription had no effect. I hate the taste of it and use it like medicine, not good...

I doubt you are depressed due to your social anxiety, it's usually part and parcel of the same condition.

As for vodka to calm your nerves, I think that's why the majority of people drink in social situation in the first place.

Where your prescriptions for the anxiety or the depression?

But apparently the more intelligent you are the more likely you are to be depressed. So think of depression as the universe telling you you are one of the intelligent ones :)

I've read claims "depression" in many cases is simply an intelligent individual more aware of their situation/circumstances and responding to it in a rational manner. In other words not like others too dumb to notice how crap they have it lol

Not that I think I am an Einstein, but I've often looked at some people and thought how wonderful it would be to wander the world in the same mild bovine-like contentment they seem to enjoy.

I visited a therapist for a diagnosis, I have major depressive disorder, SAD and GAD. The depression is a recurring cycle due to my social experiences.

I received a subscription for xanax, there were moments it seemed to calm me down but in general it was not good enough, anything stronger would be addictive.

Xanax is pretty addictive, in any case, if taken regularly.

Have you tried actual anti-depressants?

I can only imagine how the truly intelligent feel about the world :)

I am sure it is more than that though if you are using your brain more then surely certain chemicals and other factors are affected more and have greater effects.

take Ativan problem solved

I found a proper meditation, muscle relaxation session to be the most effective tool to cope with my disorders, although it requires time and effort. Pills, alcohol are easy fixes.
