Hey all,

Hope you guys can assist me in this, whenever I try to use aptitude or apt-get my boxes all stall.

On Debian 8
0% [Connecting to ftp.debian.org (130.89.148.12)]

On Ubuntu Server 15.04 (fresh install)
0% [Connecting to za.archive.ubuntu.com (197.155.92.201)

and then say the Network is unreachable, so I tried to ping the above IPs from the respective boxes and got a stable reply. Issue started out of the blue when I was doing some package installs.

Things I've tried;
Changing ISP accounts to one on a different backbone
Doing a fresh install of Ubuntu Server 15.04
Rebooted every box multiple times
Checking that I can resolve hosts and ping them

I'm out of ideas, thoughts?

Are you sure your gateway is right?

Secondly, just check if you havent specified a proxy in /etc/apt/apt.conf.d or /etc/apt/apt.conf . Ensure its removed.

I can ping the gateway and ping 8.8.8.8 and BBC.co.za

Fresh install so /etc/apt/apt.conf.d would be untouched.

Will do a more thorough check today.

Ok so it magically works when I tried this morning. No changes made since I left it last night and I didn't even reboot again.

Most likely it was debian's apt mirrors that were undergoing maintenance - I've had similar issues with Ubuntu a few times.

I had this issue recently, I moved to using the official Ubuntu servers instead because the local ones kept on erroring out for me thanks to load shedding.

Don't understand why I could ping them though..

Dont use the ZA sources, use the US sources, they seem to be more updated and working.

Which release ? (weezy/jessie/squeeze/etc)
