Can't wait....

Haha, have any favourites yet?

No not yet.. It might change when I sit there and see what the dish looks like. I tend to go for smaller portions but powerful flavours. Which is the case in this restaurant. Problem is, Heston turns tradition on it's head so you never know...

Haha, too true.

I am sure that when you are seated something will stand out or you will simply have a massive bill at the end of the night :p

I have made peace with that already...

I lived in London for almost five years, so have a bit of experience with their cuisine. ;)
Just yanking yr chain.
I go to Stb fairly often and have had meals at high-end places...so IMHO the 'normal' Stellenbosch wine farm restaurant does not come close to what Heston is offering... not even close. Whichever way u look at it.

There's nothing in SA that comes close to what Heston does at Fat Duck. His menu at Dinner By Heston is conservative in comparison and probably comparable with what a few SA chefs are doing with traditional SA dishes, but altogether in a different league.

I am incredibly jealous of you, CheekyC. Here's what my dinner would be:

Frumenty (c.1390)Grilled octopus, smoked sea broth, pickled dulse & lovage
ÂŁ17.50

(although the Salamugundy sounds awesome as well)

Hereford Ribeye (c.1830)Mushroom ketchup & triple cooked chips
ÂŁ38.00

Chocolate Bar (c.1700)Passionfruit jam & ginger ice cream
ÂŁ12.50

I would gladly spend R3000 for a meal of that caliber. If I had r3000 to spare that is of course :/. Must say, I'm quite jealous.

But he does not cater for all cultures such as hinuism, jews, muslims etc
Quite honestly Who T. F. cares. What makes you think that a restaurant needs to be all inclusive? I am sure he is not bothered. Neither would I be if I had a restaurant...

You're right. I wanted to go to Fat Duck, but couldn't get a reservation in the period I am in UK. Well, Dinner will just have to do...;)

So?

Nobody who is eating there actually cares. I would bet a few rands that jews, hindus and muslims have all eaten there despite their religious "requirements"

Yeah sure. A Doner Kebab after 10 pints doesn't represent English cuisine.

If he's complaining about it being halaal, chances are that he wasn't in the pub.

In fact, if he only went places that were halaal (doubtful) he can't really claim to have that much experience with actual English cuisine.

The europeans obtained 99% of their spices from the east/far east or americas. There would be no english cuisine without influence from muslim traders. English cusine would be baked potatos with salt and boiled pork butt

And? What's the point of this?
