The 3gb is not the annoying part

what telkom should tell ppl is that adsl has absolutely no use after been capped

ladeeda local site still full speed, who can tell me more than 5 usefull local sites

they should have made that u cant connect at all after cap, woulda been less frustrating than to literally w8 3-4 hours for one page to open

the cap is not too redicolous , its the overkill of the cap

although it would be nice if the cap was removed completely it would be gr8 if they could at least not make the cap so sevre,, cant u set what port kazaa must use

With the network shaping in effect , Kazaa users can only really use Kazaa after midnight...the rest of the time it is unusable anyways.

Exactly, that's why I reported Telkom to the Advertising Standards of South Africa on the grounds that they were guilty of false advertising. That's why I was so mad at them last month and still am.
The ASASA acknowledged receipt and said they would investigate..but I'm not too hopeful. They're probably sponsored by Telkom as well.

I found this on www.imaginet.co.za (look at the unlimited usage - can this be, what happened to the 3GB cap ?) :

ADSL Internet Access...
The answer to your need for speed! ADSL is the 'always on' connection that offers you the highest speeds available for the money. Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL), is the super-fast modem technology that allows you to access the internet and use your telephone for voice calls at the same time. Have Questions? click here.

Features:
Fantastic Speed! - 512Kbps download, 256Kbps upload.
Unlimited Usage! - no traffic limits on uploads/downloads.
Dedicated Access - always on connection / no Telkom usage charges.
3 Email Addresses - full mailboxes @imaginet.co.za w/ Virus blocking.
Imaginet WebMail - use email from anywhere via your web browser.
FREE Website Hosting - 10mb of storage space for your website.
Pricing:

Oh don't worry, I found this on their ADSL FAQ :

Are there limits on the traffic?

Yes. Imaginet fought Telkom over the imposed 3gb (3 gigabyte) traffic cap, but there is little one company can do against the government backed monopoly of Telkom. What this means is that after you have used 3 gigabytes of traffic (to or from your PC) your connection will be put onto a limited network shared with everyone who has exceeded the limit. This will still provide fairly fast access to South African sites, but international access will be much slower. Imaginet will continue to oppose Telkom on this issue and attempt to bring things more into line with international standards.

I've just checked, Imaginet doesn't say anything about unlimited usage any more.

Nice thought though.

Possible solution to cap woes? Interesting:
