Cape Independence!

Ok, fair picture there Retrobok,

but thats not the Western Cape..... I'm still seeing a fair chunk of the Eastern Cape in that image... so you'll have to convince the population of that section of the Eastern Cape to want independence as well.

Why though, those are borders given to you by the poorly performing and useless ANC...

Why would you want to abide by them?

You do realise SHOULD the issue of Cape Independence actually really come up for a vote, these are the questions that will need to be answered. There is no historic reason for the area that is known as the WC now to be independent of RSA.

Just thought I'd play devil's advocate there since that pic of Cape Colony is the 1809 version (of which there are many I'm sure) For me the only hiccup of the Cape Independence movement is that... Which borders are they willing to declare "The Cape"? Anyhoo..... :D

RetroBok : That is proably one of the BIGGEST stumblign blocks that I don't see any indication they've properly thought through.

Cape-Ind : Well since you're in support of the whole independence movement, you've got to provide the historic borders that you wish to abide by...

I think the current borders are just fine, most historical maps would concur, the border lay at the Fish and Buffels rivers...

"Early intentions to limit the size of the colony were constantly overcome by a variety of factors, and when Great Britain sent an expedition to seize the colony in the name of Willem V, Prince of Orange, in 1795 – to prevent the strategic possession from being seized by revolutionary France – it already extended from the Cape Peninsula to a disputed border east of Algoa Bay (which, after a number of clashes, was fixed on the Fish River) and northward to the (normally dry) Buffels River, just south of the Copper Mountains in Namaqualand..."

One of the arguments for independence (Which I admit I agree with) is that the Cape was handed over to the Union of South Africa just like that (This is me being simplistic), so from that I'd assume the borders they should be looking toward should be those of the Cape Colony before 1910. I've yet to find a map showing what these were but I'll get one I hope ;-)

No historical maps would concur with the current borders since they do not match the borders... they're different.

That's a map of the Cape Colony 10 years before the union of South Africa was formed. Looks exactly the same as the Cape Province before S.A. was split into the new provinces circa 1994 ish...

Therefore The Cape Independence movement in my opinion should include the current Eastern Cape, Northern Cape and Western Cape. That's my opinion anyway, since pre 1910 there was no such province/terrotory/colony called Western Province and the argument for an Independent Cape has stated the illegal transfer of the Cape Colony into the Union of South Africa.

There's another cat amongst the pigeons... :D

However I'm still in support of Cape Independence, and I will be putting the above argument to the guys at the Cape Party!

As far as I know, the official Cape Party strategy is to get Independence for the Western Cape as it is today, and then after that if say the Northern or Eastern Capes wanted to join they possibly could...

I think you'll find they want independence for the Northern Cape too. The first clue is the Cape Party logo :-)

I haven't seen anything that would suggest they're going to do it in a "step by step" process (which may actually be a better option), I may stand corrected though.

i recommend you invade Durban and annex it. The water around the Cape is too bloody cold.
