Cape Town: David Forbes murder case

Thanks Vern that was informative if not a little disturbing. But I will talk about that in a proper thread dedicated to the topic and not here where I feel we could wonder off in the wrong direction

What was the outcome of this incident? Last I remember was the shooters bail application.

Engen shooting: Accused 'took my joy from me,' says dad

Tammy Petersen, News24

Cape Town - “He took my joy away from me and he doesn’t even look sorry about it,” a frustrated Ebrahiem Joseph, whose son Toufiq was shot and killed in January, said outside the Cape Town Regional Court on Tuesday.

Joseph voiced his frustration after the case against concert promoter David Forbes, accused of killing 23-year-old Toufiq Joseph, was postponed for further investigation. Forbes allegedly shot and killed Toufiq in the parking area of the Engen garage in Orange Street, Cape Town, on 24 January 2015.

Bystanders said after the shooting Forbes simply stood at the scene, drinking a cool drink and smoking a cigarette while he waited for police.

Initial reports say the sale of tickets to a music festival may be at the heart of the killing. Forbes was apparently one of the event organisers, while Joseph allegedly sold tickets to the event.

Forbes reportedly claimed he shot Joseph in self-defence after Toufiq threatened him.

But Ebrahiem insisted his son didn’t know Forbes.

“His friend told me that this white larney had phoned Toufiq three times and told him to meet him at the garage. For what reason, I don’t know,” he said.

“I just want the courts to get to the bottom of this. I don’t care how long it takes. They must make sure justice is served.”

Shariefa, puffing on a cigarette, said she missed her son.

“It breaks my heart that he died this way. The person who did this mustn’t get off with a slap on the wrist.”

The case was postponed until November 26.

They claim the Hout Bay businessman had reason to fear Toufiq Joseph and his family when he gunned down the 23-year-old last January in Cape Town.

Forbes’s defence claims the State has not complied with its request for further detail relating to the murder docket.

What ever happened with this case?
/Googles

I heard via unreliable sources that a plea was reached and time is being served but I honestly cannot recall much more (was hammered and stoned, and it was a while back).

And like I said, unreliable source. I will ask around...

Is it me, or does the wheel of justice seem to turn slower and slower as I get older? 3 years to go to trial for a murder case. Wonder what the backlog is. Imagine if our police force become effective is solving crime. Our courts would crumble.

H2O party founder back in court over murder at Cape Town petrol station 7 years ago

Cape Town - Hout Bay businessman David Forbes was back in the Cape Town Regional Court on Monday, seven years after he was arrested for the murder of Toufiq Joseph.

Forbes shot Joseph, who was 23 years old at the time, at a petrol station in Gardens.

The State alleged that Forbes intentionally killed Joseph on January 24, 2015 by shooting him multiple times.

The court was set to hear arguments by the State and defence to either convict or acquit Forbes, but the matter was postponed to July 28 for the prosecution to prepare.

At the time of the incident, Forbes admitted he shot Joseph, but said he did it in self-defence. [/quote ]
