Sorry, let me clarify; Muslims, and I don't mean it in a derogatory sense.

OFF TOPIC: They may get married as young as 15 if both parties' parents consent to it. This is dine to prevent sexual relations outside of marriage - which would be considered haraam.

The downside to this though, is that some of these couples get divorced by the time that they're 18 - the age of legal majority, where they can then decide to get out of the marriage. This is a reality that I have seen.

ON TOPIC: In the case of Toufeeq, it seems that he just left his wife, which is another thing that they sometimes do.

Ah - so he was Muslim. Certainly looked like it in the pics.
(and I don't think it can be meant in a derogatory sense, fwiw).

My reason for asking: is this practice even legal in South Africa? I mean, can two children get married? Surely that is against our laws.

A friend told me that the Daily Voice article states that she left him as he was too immature and there was too much interference from the family.

PS: The article also states that the car (GTI) is his brother's fiancé's.

Nope. More of a 'cultural marriage' from what I understand.

Hmm, wait.

As per this article, Imams became official marriage officers, meaning they can legally marry people. So these would be normal marriages. I don't think you're allowed to get married under the age of 18, so anyone that does so will only be a cultural thing and won't be recognised by the State.

Where in the constitution does it recognise cultural marriages?
