LOL. Common sense dictates that I will not change lanes unless it is safe to do so...even if you're coming up behind me at 220. Quite funny that you mention the M5, lots of retards(both locals and out-of-towners) somehow think its a grand prix circuit.:mad:

The discussion and issue is with Cape Town, not any other part of the country or the world. Now if you would like to discuss other parts of the country, go make a thread about it and I'll happily join in the discussion.

However, to be fair, other parts of the country/world are bad, if not worse, than Cape Town.



To be very clear:
* Cape Town is not the only city with *** drivers, they're all over the world.

* Nobody is expecting anyone to move out of the way for another driver who is speeding.

* The discussion is about people who driver slowly in the fast lane, and refuse to move over even if the left lane is empty. It's about people who completely disregard the "Keep Left, Pass Right" rule and use the outside lane as just another ordinary lane.

* That's all, anything else you interpret from this discussion is your own fault and will mean that you are wrong.

I agree about the Cape Town drivers. Yesterday on my way home, there was an ass in a white camry that blocked me on my bike so I couldn't get past. He drove on the dividing line between the middle and right lanes, watching me in his mirror. Every time there was a gap on the left, he'd speed up so I couldn't get in the gap to overtake him. Eventually I just swung far left and hit the throttle. He'll still be stuck in traffic 30 minutes after I've taken my helmet off at home. :D

As for cars and being stuck behind them, I sometimes feel like driving past lane-hogs and slowing down in front of them. When I'm in the car, of course.

To fix Cape towns traffic woes they need to ban the use of cell phones and Toyota's on the road.

125 in a 60 zone, 152 in an 80 zone - perhaps a jail sentence of 1 day for every k over the speed limit would put an end to this.
 
Try driving on the Autobahns in Germany or the Autostrada in Italy, cars come past at

220km/h pluss.

If you dont move over a cop in a Porche nails your ass.

Love to see that happen in S.A.

Slow people keep left let the speedsters past unless your dad was a traffic policeman and it rubbed off on you.

omg, what ..are u like 14 or smth??? for your infomation the use of cell phones while driving is against the Law.
And i fail to see how removing Toyota's from the road would fix any traffic WOES.
If u tried to be funny or anything...well it didnt work, people die on these roads because of #%$& ppl that think they own the roads, U aint funny, grow up ffs :mad:

I also don't like it when people hog the right lane. I always move over to the left if someone is approaching at top speed behind me. I expect others to do the same when I'm approaching.

However, if behaviour on roads are the only reason why you're back in Jozi, then that confirms why Cape Town is a much better destination. :) 10 million tourists a year also seem to agree.

Exactly.

I've driven about 700kms over the last three days on a camping trip and I generally stuck to a solid 120km/h in the fast lane of the freeway.

I would always move across to the left lane IF, as the law says, it is safe to do so. If I am overtaking slow-moving vehicles in the left lane then don't expect me to slam on my breaks and join them just because you want to break the law.

Also, if you are coming up on me doing 120 and you are doing close to 200, which seems to be too often the case, sadly, then it is rarely going to be safe for me to pull over to the left, because I know you are not going to wait to slow down for me to do that and are instead going to break the law again by undertaking me. I'd rather not pull out into your way in that case.

Also, I know the topic of the thread has changed since the OP made it, but on my trip and in general, the majority of bad drivers were NOT from Cape Town at all.

Apparently in Gauteng, there are no speed limits on the road and those little orange lights on the side of cars (indicators) are forbidden as well :rolleyes:
