Cape Town 'killing cable thieves'

The Congress of SA Trade Unions (Cosatu) will be laying charges against the Democratic Alliance (DA) for “trying to kill copper thieves”.

You cannot even begin to make up shyte like this :wtf:

If you save more money by keeping the lights on and deterring the thieves than to switching it off and replacing the cables, then why not? Why is Cosatu complaining about this? Are they losing money?

Their benefactors are losing money...

Is this another load of horsemanure being spewed forth from Tony's mouth..

I will admit, his utterings will make for a damn good comedy skit in a few years time.. ppl won't believe the stuff is real.

The same thing is happening in Gauteng with the streetlights on the N1 - the stretch between Lynnwood and Rigel - being kept on during the day to deter theft.

You don't see cosatu taking the ANC in Gauteng to court... muppets...

bloody hell, utility companies are spending millions on security and now to keep the lights on during the day is ridiculous. it's another blow to the consumer. the middle class are starting to really feel the pinch of all these price hikes e.g. fuel, electricity, rates and now you have blatant wastage due to theft. what a ****up!

The irony of Tony's statement is that cable theft hits the poor communities hardest (in other words, COSATU members, Tony).

Tony should be petitioning his comrades in Government to stop the sale of illegal copper, if he wants to do something meaningful and lasting. I cannot fathom why the illegal sale of copper has been allowed to go on for so long?

Do you really think this hasn't been tried? Do you know why nothing has happened? Hint 1: the ANC are a party of criminals. Hint 2: the ANC would rather be embezelling taxpayers' money than using it for what it supposed to be used for.

I agree with what they are doing 100%, I don't see why everyone else doesn't, imo it's the least they should be doing about the cable theft problem.
