Cape Town 'killing cable thieves'

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Someone slap me ha ha ha ha I just can't stop laughing ha ha ha This must be the fknicg New South Africa :D Not even Leon Schuster thought of this one. Ha ha ha I am going to spread this joke all over the world.

I suggest putting up signs saying the electricity is off...and then leaving it on.

We should not electrify RDP houses - we could kill people.

We should also not build any toilets enclosed or not cause people use them to throw their babies in.

Cosatu....**** em and their law!

Shame they're trying just about everything to "out" the DA in Cape Town....they've run out of ideas it seems.

Two can play at this game: Perhaps the DA should start laying charges against the ANC and Cosatu for all the innocent people who've been brutally and pointlessly murdered due to the "guvaament's" inability to properly protect law abiding citizens.

I agree with COSATU on this one. There should be a warning given that the cables are live. That will stop the theft without having to kill anyone.

Why would anyone think they weren't?

And is it a normal thing for people to want to dig them up and touch them?

I have another question.....

Most of these street lights will have lightsensors that will turn the light off during the day.....

Why exactly then must the municipality go and turn the electricity off during the day if the lights turns themselves off....

Or of course the DA should then in turn charge every municipality in SA for leaving the power to the lights on, because i'm pretty sure they all do.

Would putting up warning signs not just show the criminals exactly where the underground cables are located.

@Alf Of course is normal - it just depends on your mentality.

This country is going backwards at a fast rate. Has it become the norm that cables are dug up or cut down that there has to be a warning sticker put on lamp posts? Why not get the DA locked up because street lights burning 24/7 contribute to global warming or something?

People install cables and lights, other people take it out, others sell it, others melt it, others then remake cables, others then install it again.we leave power on during the day, wasting it, to try and stop them, and the never ending wasting cyclecontinues.

This all really seems so dumb, and such a waste of time, work, money and resources. I blame the monetary system - we are still a primitive species.

Once we realize there is enough for everyone, we dont need to fight in this rat race....all we are doing is wasting earths resources in doing it, when everyone can have a share.

I didn't see who made the statement, but that sounds like Tony. The same guy who complained about bicycle lanes and who apologized to the poor after making use of a private hospital. Chump.

I take it you've heard of The Venus Project, if you haven't go read up on it. Very interesting :)

Some of us are still more primitive than others, and there's only enough if everyone works for his share. The takers don't wanna do that, they find it easier to steal than to sweat for their own.
What's next anyway, being sued for installing alarm systems or putting up burglar bars 'cos you're denying some thief a means to come by stuff for free?

Some people are young and stupid - I don't think they deserve to die for that.
Also, I think those of us who grew up with electricity forget that we were taught at a young age how dangerous electricity is so it seems obvious to us, but many many people in this country did not grow up with electricity and perhaps don't realise what they are dealing with. It seems stupid to us because it's so obvious but it's only obvious because we were educated about it. The idea that some people might think it's safe to dig them up because it's daytime is not so extreme when you think that many people are just ignorant and uneducated when it comes to electricity safety (having not had much experience, growing up without it).

Why would these uneducated about electricity people think it's okay to dig up and take something that doesn't belong to them ?

Were they also not educated about stealing = really not a good thing ?

The stealing is wrong, I have no dispute with that and it makes me happy when they are caught. I'm all for arresting people for stealing. I just think electrocuting someone to death for it is a bit extreme.
Put a warning up that the cables are live and dangerous and if someone still decides to try dig them up at least they were warned. Most people have second thoughts about trying to steal the cables, if they have been warned they are live.

These thieves shouldn't be touching the cables in the first place.

If you are injured while doing something stupid and illegal it is your own fscking problem. I don't want society going out of it's way to try and make the world safe for criminals.
