I'm hoping someone could shed some light on this for me...

Since I got back from my vacation, traffic on the N1 is just hideous. Around the start of August I could leave at 8.30 from Plattekloof and be in town by 9am. Since the 25th of Aug 08 when i got back, it's really just ridiculous. Not one morning I got to the office before 9.30....

What has changed? I know about the construction on the M5 intersection, but that's been there since start of august anyway and it doesnt really affect traffic. So what else changed?! Anyone know?

Just rather curious as it changed in the space of a week and a half. It's not fun :(

They are working on the R300 big time, perhaps people are re-routing via the N1?

Okay. So what you're saying is those that usually take the R300 > N2 are now going N1? Cause other than that there's no other reason I can think of why R300 would affect N1 traffic into Cape Town? Trouble is N2 traffic is also worse. *confused*

Was just a guess, there’s roadwork’s an all those roads, so I could be that.

maybe it is because the rain has been here since then and all the people don't want to stand at the open bus shelters and get wet... they'd rather jump in their cars.. HINT .. leave earlier...

Something is definitely changing in CT traffic patterns. Traffic going through Brackenfell to get onto the N1 has increased substantially since the end of June. Frans Conradie and Old Paarl to Old Oak onto the N1 has always been busy but it has become a real mess over the last two months. This traffic then go down the N1 towards the CBD. What changed? I ask myself this question every day.

the M5 is also affected. it took me 1:45 from Muizenberg to Montague Gardens the other day.

there were no accidents, but everyone slows down at the roadworks to see what was going on. I think that is what is slowing traffic down. i can't wait for the intersection to be completed... there is/was a thread on the forum with pictures of how the completed intersection would look.

I'm a Vaalie through and through. My company told me on Friday that I need to be in CT for 4 days. Have been here since Sunday and one thing fascinates me about CT traffic.

I was driving at 120km/h in my lovely rented Yaris  on the N1 this morning and there was a black 6-series on my bumper. I'd understand if I was in the fast lane, in my car in Jo'burg I get annoyed with people who think 120 means they can stay in the fast lane whether there's a car behind them or not...but i was in the MIDDLE lane and the driver of the BMW wouldn't move to the fast lane. No it wasn't a bus lane either.

What's wrong with Cape Town people?

And it doesn’t count if the BMW had a blue light on the dash and a fat dignitary in the back, we’ve been trying to get rid of them for years, so not the peoples fault then. :D

I prefer driving in GP than in CA, CA drivers are all idiots :p
drive to survive....

N2 is pretty screwed with the roadworks around the airport etc, think its stepped up a gear, which is probably why people are going via N1

I'm not sure if it's related, but around the same time I have noticed that the traffic from Table View to the CBD has dropped significantly. It used to take me almost an hour and for the last month or so it has only been taking 40 minutes or so.

I'm hoping someone could shed some light on this for me...
