Cape Town WIFI mesh nets

ok. what good will registering a node do, if they are private. The problem is that some people are not using the correct setup and dont check to see if there are any free channels, If you plant ur self onto a channel where there are already 3 nodes operating then there are gonna be problems. Also there are atmospheric conditions one has to take into cinsideration, there are alot of non-wifi devices that can affect the 2.4ghz signal. We try ourselves not to cause problems with other wireless links, so we try to find the best channel that is far away enough from the other ones as not to cause and signal problems, but ppl who have no way to check where their are open channels and ppo who use wireless deviced which are not really suited to the tast at hand should not even try at all. Dont be cheap, the cheaper the wireless device the more likely that its wont do ie the usb wi-fi adapter ontop of a pole. Plan the link before, dont just do it and then deal with the problem, try to solve the problem before the link is setup ie see what the wireless devices can do, test them before hand, if the usb adapter is up to the tast then use it else DONT, ur just waisting ur money and time like that, Trust me i know.
Use directional antennas where possible, they are more efficient and dont radiate their energy all over the show ie the dreaded omni.

Its now 5:22am and i just finished playing eve-online so if there are any spelling mistakes i'm sorry, but hey that life.

If you Love it let it go, if it comes back then it love you. If not hunt it down and kill it

i have read about this doc that was being put together about how to setup a wifi link from scratch. any sign of this doc? I am sitting in table view and wanting to start a group for various reasons(gaming, filesharing, etc ...) please forward a copy to me, busy building and if there is enough interest should be up soon sharing a link to the internet. www.nodedb.com cape town node 22 mufasa

The whole point of my exercise is to set up a connection as cheaply as possible, what people do with it after that is not really my concern. I would suggest however that using 802.11b or g for backbone links is not the best idea I've ever heard, and quite honestly you'll never win arguing over the spectrums.

I have 10 Wi-Fi cards and will link up to anyone who want to add onto their mesh.
