Cape Town WIFI mesh nets

Hello. Anyone living in the city centre or near Gardens/Vredehoek/High Cape. I am very interesting in joining a mesh or helping setting a node up!

Alternatively, I have seen lots in these forums about setting up a cheap long range (<2Km) Wifi link, and anyone able to help me with a quick cost effective solution. My office is only 900m (straight line) from my flat, but not clear LOS, trees and buildings in the way. Any ideas if I can make this link work and tap into the office network. Already have permission from the office, just need to figure out how. Checked out www.miro.co.za extensively, but any advice would be great appreciated!

I live in Tamboerskloof near the CBD about 2km's away from my works wireless gateway ...having the same problem.Have you tried making a cantenna? could boost you to about 1km if you are lucky

Haven't heard of that, will do some reading up. Be great if you have any good info a cantenna or if you have some experience having tried this out. I am in High Cape and I have the elevation, but no clear enough LOS.

Well, in kraaifontein we are tricking the people into buying gear and joining. We still need details about all the other people out there, but it seems impossible to manage since almost nobody registers on nodedb.

Maybe we can get some fresh input from the people who already posted in this thread?

Guys, i got word from Daywalker that most of the people in the general Cape Town area is connected to a WUG formed by UniTerm's high sites. Its a pay service costing R400, but I am not sure if everybody has to pay this, of if its a combined cost.

In my opinion, this is wrong, as it is defeating the whole idea of having a FREE network. Is there NO other way of doing this? How are the guys in JHB doing it? Come on, we need to do it right!

have you had a look at nodedb? there are a few AP's there. MaD is also up and running in Table View (i think).

Unfortunately, not many people frequent these forums. Try a search for everybody in Table View and them PM them. Might be worth a shot
