Cape Town WIFI mesh nets

Hey there.
Been about a year since i started this thread....quite interesting to see that it's still alive.

If anyone wants to connect to my little ap. the ssid is EvilNode. (I've got the first node on nodedb for cape quite proud of that :) and it's finally active )

Anyways. from where i am currently there was last night about 3 ap's i saw out there.

SSID's i be seeing:

gk
multiadmin
Multibroker

If anyone who uses these ap's can pm me to join you guys it would be sweet.
I've got basically los from the sanlam head office over bellville and probably if i wanted to i could have it showing to lower bellville east but i don't know if there is any nodes there at the moment.

So......contact me if you want to connect to me or i can connect to you guys :)

I actually want to contact the owner's of these ap's but unfortunately don't know how to get hold of em.

Please if you have any interest in joining or setting up wireless meshes/networks with other please register on the nodedb site (it is free to register) so we can contact each other. If you have problems ploting gps co-ord, ask. easy ways to do it. Send me a private message if you have any questions. :D

Please mods can we have this thread made sticky? more reads and posts than the other mesh/networks :rolleyes:

I stay in goodwood west and have access points in goodwood & plattekloof if you stay in goodwood then surely you must have seen me before i usually fly around in goodwood in a red Audi with smoked mags, chasing wifi signals.

Got a nice -64 signal over a 14km link.

PS: i did register at nodedb about a year ago but can't recall what happened after that.

Got tons of goodies to share.

what did you use to do those scans. what hardware and software. you picked up my ap and i am in table view:eek: !!

i can pick up your ap "mufasa" with my ap in plattekloof jumping between -79 and -83 dbm - straight forward setup - Celeron 600 pc running mikrotik with a Senao SL2511ext2 100mw (actually 200mw) 802.11b pcmcia card with a 10.5dbi 120 degree VP sector - excellent combo with huge coverage and then a Atheros a/b/g 5213AR mini-PCI with a 18dbi flatpanel that is connecting me to my home in goodwood. I've been running it for about a year, mostly to built up some knowledge. All this is fitted ontop of a roof of some guy i know that i supply internet for - a matter of good will. So..... that's quite amazing picking up a ap in Tableview with a 10.5dbi antenna - just goes to show that all these WISP's with their huge gain antennas and amps got some homework to do - overkill is not a good option when it comes to wifi.
 
so why not try and hook up then? are you interested? could have a link from table view to goodwood running. whats your ssid? have you hidden it?
 
okay, i just left home but disabled the security and shared some stuff, still need to sort out the rest (don't want all the people to see me and my babes.......) you can use any ip between 192.168.128.100 to 200, subnet 255.255.255.0 ssid = webzone. Will go and give the antenna a slight adjustment tomorrow morning - try to get a low -70 or at least a stable something don't like it when the signal jumps. Have fun and keep me up to date - in case you'd like to know anything i just pm'ed you my cell nr. ENJOY!!
 
o yes, the server's ip is 192.168.128.9

Cape Town Wifi Mesh

I have a few friends who would like to mesh in the Rosebank area. We are all close to UCT's campus, around Tugwell. I am however clueless about what I need. Have a laptop which I will use to connect. Anyone wanna join in/ help out?

i would recommend you have a look on the www.nodedb.com site. i can see a couple of nodes around that area, have a look

you can only contact other ppl on that site after you register and it is free. ppl always like the sound of free :D
 
help the gps co-ords

Help!

I've created my node location on NodeDB (though I don't have a real node, just very interested! :D ), but the lat/lon seems a bit wrong - it's placed me on top of the mountain :eek: and, really, I'm not.
I used the street maps at http://new.mweb.co.za/general/streetmap.jsp to get the co-ord.
 
Oh, and my offer still stands to invest some money to get a mesh going in Gordon's Bay / Strand area ;) .
Just don't have the technical expertise, though. :o
 
my ap is right next to "PLATSPAR" (Plattekloof SPAR) - sh*t, i'm using the extra channels that i bought with my mikrotik license - will change the setup over the weekend - i'm currently on channel 2494.
