thebot, what you quoted over there was SARCASM on my part. i was peeved at the lack of speed displayed by Sentech to bring out MyWireless in CT.

although, not sure if i want to enlist for the service since seeing all the crappy speeds some ppl have been getting...

Receiving off the Goodwood Tower in Cape Town, but continually experiencing problems with disconnecting. Connecting doesn't seem to stay on for very long and sometimes not even for a minute. I was fortunate today to have over 11hrs of connectivity and then earlier this evening the disconnects began again. This has been on and off like this for more than two weeks. Prior to that I was only having periodic disconnects.

Can someone tell me what is going on? Tech support just don't get back to me. My signal strength has been increasing over the past few weeks, but the disconnects have become more frequent. When I was at 2% signal strength I was able to connect for more than 2 days non stop.

I don't know what is going on with Sentech in Cape Town, but it looks like they are going the same way as Johannesburg.

I just spoke to support tonight regarding constant disconnects for the last 10 days or so...

They say that there is a problem with the microwave link to IS and that they had a meeting about it on friday...
Apparently they'll be fixing it early this week.
I asked them to call me as soon as they know what's happening.
SOOOOO...I guess we'll have to wait and see...
BTW
I'm on the Milnerton tower 39%

CoR and zerofire, what kind of speeds are u guys receiving and what packages are u on?

I'm on the 256...
Speeds have always been ok until bout 10 days ago...
Not so much a speed issue as a constant disconnect issue...
They said that they know about this and it's because of the microwave link on my particular tower but then that begs the question....
Why is it happening in Goodwood aswell?
I'll keep you updated if they call me back today.

I am on 128kb.

I am also not having issues with speed, but the disconnects. Mine also started about two weeks ago.

I have e-mailed Sentech and they reckon there is no problem on my tower. But, yet again while typing this I have disconnected.

We have been informed that there are currently no problems with the infrastructure other that the Parow North tower.

Are you not perhaps connecting to that tower? The tower ID
is: 126

Lovenstein is up and running.

There were problems on Friday, these are all sorted and all 3 sectors are up and running. I tested from the area today.

Well dont know where some of the information comes from, but as far as I know Blouberg and Newlands are the next to come on line and those are both the end of this month. Durbanville I hear will be up in around November some time. Maybe the powers that be might get things running faster who knows.

The disconection on multiple towers could be due to the topology(star) that sentech seems to be using to interconnect the towers.

Since Sentech are not exactly making any of this public it's speculation BUT ...

I think that one of the towers connects to the other... this second tower then connects back to IS ...

Just phoned them about connecting me, Harrold gave me a number for the people supplying the mondes, they wanna charge me up to R300 only come out and see if i am zoned, is that the way they play the game?

I GIVE UP

they will NEVER get a tower up in the northern suburbs. (at least not before I emmigrate to Canada in 4 years time.

I guess if we wait a few months to a year more, we could choose between Sentech, iBurs, Vodacom, and maybe MTN too? I sure hope there will be some plan for a modem at a good price that works on all, and some shorter term contracts to make it possible to hop between providers based on better service etc.

i've given up on sentech. gone with another wireless provider instead. f@ck u slowtech.rest in pieces.

Does anyone know if Newlands is up and running yet? I live in JHB but I'll be staying in Kenilworth for the next few weeks and it should be covered by the Newlands tower, if it's running. Just wanted to know if I should bother to bring my mywireless modem down with me or not - any advice. BTW, I assume the same user authentication would apply as for JHB - I would imagine their authentication system is national but one never quite knows with Sentech, anything is possible. It is supposed to be mobile so I would assume there wouldn't be a problem???

iro kedul's statement
u know how the situation is in south africa everybody is gonna say their equipment is only able to work on their infrastructure but then u will always find a way to by pass it.

its like the instore activation of ure cell they do that so they can net lock it but just a simple search on astalavista an u got all ure codes for ure cell so if u want u can just hope skip over to the next provider.

the vodacom and mtn most likely can skip betwen the two but the iburst is a whole different kettle of fish ure gonna c something i think very similiar to the mywireless gate to hell(modem).

Proud South african rip offs.

i'm finally connected, and its not through sentech/telkom.
