Cape Town

Which package are you on cloud, and whereabouts in CT are you situated. Also, how long did it take to get installed?

Those disconnects seem to be starting again. Anyone having more than one disconnect a day?

Cape Town 128K 18% Tower 22 (Salt River) PPPoE, IPCop

Nickste, i'm in durbanville. i have the 128k home package and i connect to the botleray tower. from the day they test the signal, it took three days for them to come and istall. i was up by friday :)

Nickste, still to early to tell. I have to sort out some things with internet sharing and firewalls. Too unstable to give a clear indication. Will let u know once everything is settled.

ciao for now

Uninet sucks, I tried it for 2 days and then got them to come and take out there ****. The ping rates are good but that's all!!!! with P2P you will not get more that 0.5kb/s and if you are lucky it will go to 1 kb/s some times for a short bursts.

I do not recomend uninet to anyone!!!!!!!!!!

not actually hey. p2p is only allowed after 7. If you read anything, its clearly stated. i get between 1.1 to 6.4 k off new torrents. Other than p2p everything is good. http downloads are always around 15-16k. (128k package).

You actually the one that sucks. Stop depending on p2p no broadband in SA gives you full on p2p, it would be just plain stupid of them.

Well, I do not know where you get your info from but I tried it for myself and it sucks, even after 7PM.
and for P2P, well I have an ISDN 128k and i get my full band width so don't call me names if you don't know what your talking about, Maybe you should try the various services for yourself so that you know what you are talking about!!

ISDN is not a broadband service. Its only on dial up that p2p is not shapped but oh well no point starting a pointless fight ciao

lol slumley. i downloaded off kazaalite last night and at times got 20+ kiloBYTES per second chum, no jokes. if u need proof i'll take a screenshot and mail it to u.

btw, u can go stick ur telkom infested ISDN line up ur limp sphincter while i sit and browse the net leisurely during the day for all i care.

Hey slumley...

Not starting a fight here cos it really isnt worth it. But dont say people suck if you only used them FOR A WHOLE 2 DAYS - WHOOPIE!!!

I have been through ALL of their packages in the year and a half ive been with them. Started on the 64K package and then the 256. While I was on the 256K package, used to get 25+k on p2p. Since then ive gone down the the 128K package and they instated the *no p2p during the day* story. P2P doesnt work during the day, fair enough. During the evenings *when i do use p2p* i get decent speeds...

Freek is right when he says dialup is the only non-shaped connection. Bandwidth is too expensive in SA not to shape traffic.

3 e's !!! thanx ngr. i was calulating how much i dl'd a month. since i installed flashget. 03/07/04 till the 16/08/04, I downloaded 9.545gigs with flash get. about 600mbs with bit torrent. so say abt 10gigs downloads, maybe 300mb surfing, 1gig upload. calculating it out thats about 4 accounts with adsl. however alot was from a local ftp on my network so maybe that won't count.

From my experiment. I need at least a 10gig cap. 8gigs will be fair however. so telkom 8gigs!!

hey gr347 news.
I live in the blomtuin area in ct and on the corner of this street there is a garage( a shell garage) now what makes this interesting is that for the last month an a half i've seen the sentech modem in the owners office but the owner is never there. well this weekend i finally got hold of him an he's running on the 512 package downloading like mad and he's connecting to the parow north tower but through a booster antenna.
This is quite amazing seeing how far the parow north tower is from his location.
anyone know how the antenna on the modem works for hooking up a bidirectional antenna?

Proud South african rip offs.

Anyone in cape town using uninet? Can you tell me whether they have got a good coverage and acceptable service? I do not mind having a dialup speed as long as I have a functioning 24/7 connection. Thanks

fdefoglio, ya the MW users get pissed when they stuck with their contract and crappy service and then someone speaks about a way better alternative.

email, will answer any info you need about uninet or just join the #uninet channel on zanet

Ok guys, sorry about that and thanks freeek? :-) I have started a new Uninet topic in the "off topic" section - thanks

So like what the hell has happened to the guys from CPT.... there have been no comments/complaints in over a month... is that a good sign? I need to know if all is well as I want to apply for an account for a friend (he's not too IT literate). I have borrowed a modem to test the signal strength and it looked Xcellent.... I am about 1,3Km from the Leovenstein Tower and have a line of sight view to the tower, so I guess all is good to go.. Can anyone assist with comments about their expereinces in CPT or even Loevenstein?
