People were simply too scared to put their money where their mouth is, and some of that fear was DA created. Nothing more to add
You did a poll on these people to establish these facts? Seeing as tou say there is nothing more to add.

Prepared is a strong word.

I have given it some thought, tho.

In the first place, our non-DA numbers would go up dramatically(*).

That's a straightforward enough scenario to imagine.

p.s. * as a percentage of the overall population.
Ok, I'm guessing that since you deal in hyperbole dramatically would mean they quadruple their votes to 1%? So you now have a country led by the same people just with serious risk and unknowns to navigate for the next decade at least...

You must be living under a rock if you are South African and haven't been subject to the DA's fearmonger of voters, saying if they vote smaller parties there is a chance the ANC will take the provincial government.

(Not that the WC government has any real control over the major areas like policing, education, taxes, energy and transport/ports.)

Why censor me then?

Too many digital trees being harmed?

I don't see anyone censoring Brian_G..... his chatGPT posts are far longer than mine, and are by definition bot posts.

You guys think we can't see the anti-social antics.

We can.
.

I'm not saying that you should be censored at all; I certainly didn't report your posts.

I just found the reasons for deletion quite funny.

Show us the lack of "self-awareness"? Or is it just you wanting to.insult others, again?
Ok you want me to show you the lack of self-awareness....right? Here we go.

Is there a pattern to central-planning of economies and centralized political control that has worked out tragically for human-kind?

Anything in particular about the 20th century that flags, for you?

It's a real gimme, but treat it as a serious question. So we can all take a look at the lack of self-awareness.

I count 3 (Edit: now 4) more posts just deleted somewhere people, suggest keeping things polite and on track. Clearly someone (new?) is determined to trip things up.

Don't shoot the messenger

[Latest news, press release and organisational info now at end of previous page]
Lol. I assume the "new" is aimed at me. How many times must I say I have no issue being open if I reported something or someone? Go patch that burst bubble of yours.

How does this apply to you accusing the individual of lack of self-awareness in that particular post?

Here we go with the disparaging comments again. There has been fear-mongering by every party. That does give any evidentiary support to BG's bold statement.

He apparently can't hear himself in the context of 200+ million corpses in the 20th century due to murder, by governments, of their own fellow citizens.

To him - and apparently to you too - it has no bearing on centralization of control today.

Everyone else who knows the bear minimum of 20th century history reads this and thinks, this guy is a hazard.... keep him away from politicians and their cronies who lobby for centralized power to increase.

There's a reason free speech is the 1st amendment, and not 14th or 15th etc.

It's the most important one. Because debating to settle differences is the one thing we started to do differently, which enabled a middle-class to emerge from a two-tier system of upper and lower classes.
Ah yes, the Founders sacred ranking system:

1. Free speech
2. Guns
3. No soldiers crashing in your spare room.

Far more important than equal rights and due process.

Apparently the middle class magically appeared because people debated. Wild that Europe didn’t notice this during 1,000 years of monks debating every day while everyone else lived in mud huts.

If there is one thing the regulars know, although they may not like to admit it openly, it's that what they term 'waffle' and 'walls o text' is my own thoughts and reasoning..... not some bot's.

So yes, you can resort to insults when you fail to comprehend it, (I'll take it on the chin) but this ^ is not a good look for mybb's censorship reputation.

It's the kind of detail that most don't look for. Remember school days at all? Kids hated subjects like History, on the whole.

Why censor me then?

Choice of content really, Lex. In the right company I'm sure your posts would be more popular. But also, you're more close to off topic than not, all too often.

Now, to end, I'll again remind you that the "incident" you so fondly hang on to was almost 6 years ago. And that since then we were constantly friendly , until just a couple of months ago... when you started becoming much more critical, and rude.
Enough dude

Take Russia/Ukraine conflict.

The exact people who fund that war are exactly the type of people who should be socially ostracized and economically boycotted out of their anti-social behavior.
THAT is was the verage middle-class person can do. Whether remainer or leaver, it should be a given that this comes with being a human being that has to omehow get along with others without resorting to animalistic tooth and claw behavior.
I 100% agree with you on that.

But I'm sorry to say that will never happen, well at least not in our lifetimes.

The US military-industrial complex cannot be stopped, they don't care who they have to bribe, murder, step on, step over, frame, exploit, imprison, boycott, go around, go over etc etc that's a 1 trillion dollar train no one will stop.

If you believe somehow that it can be stopped in our lifetime, then I have a bridge to sell you...

Certainly new parties will spring up in the new land. The DA has made it clear it would not want to be part of a secession.
Sure, but I think there will be a lot of DA members/politicians that would see an "opportunity" to start a new party, gtoup, organisation etc etc in the new "Country" and will drop the DA like a hot potato, as many other politicians will also do...

I'm undecided how to answer this poll question;
"In the event of secession being successful, would you consider migrating to W/Cape ?"

I would "consider it", but it would be impractical to move, so keep changing my mind..
Thoughts?
Same, as my job / career is here, and my friends, family, life, interests, etc etc,

And the weather is nuts over there LOL 😛

interesting you mention this.
some years back atlantic seaboard had a ward councillor that wanted to move the local homeless pp, to another area.
no real plan in place, simply scoop them up and dump them in another area - thus replicating the problem elsewhere.
there was drama aplenty:

soon enough she vanished - we no longer had an elected ward councillor.
then came election time.
blue & white umbrellas and tables as far as the eye could see.

im leaving a shopping centre - was fairly early on a saturday morning, around 9am.
as i'm leaving i notice the da folk manning their tables and fighting their umbrellas, eyeing me.
i was easy picking - low hanging fruit, probably 1 of 4 ppl leaving the centre to run the gauntlet of blue shorts, umbrellas and table cloths.

one of the peons heads me off and launches into his well rehearsed script.
i stop him mid sentence - asking him why i should vote for a party that abandoned it's constituents a year back, and is now out on the streets to curry favour, for no other reason than " election time".
peon is flummoxed - this question was clearly not included in his guidebook and scripted responses.
he is glancing around furtively, in desperate search of the big guns.
my eyes are following his, as we stand there in silence - a mexican stand-off of sorts !

and there he is, the saviour riding his white stallion to save the day - jp smith.
jp comes striding over "offering to answer any questions".
i repeat my question - why vote for the party that so unceremoniously abandoned it's constituents a year prior ?
while he is mulling this one over, it dawns on me he has no idea as to who i am - it's at this juncture i decide to remind him of the multitudes of clashes he & i had while he was serving as ward councillor for the area - the last of which included me suggesting he is ill suited to a career in public service given his reluctance to engage with his constituents during his tenure as councillor.

he then begins his scare politics - pretty much verbatim:
"if you vote smaller parties there is a chance the ANC will take the provincial government". yadda yadda yadda.
by now a small group of "bystanders" are gathered around - listening to the back and forth between us - and probably enjoying a certain amount of vicarious thrills.

i then ask him if that is all the da has to offer - try scare voters & throw stones at other parties - in affect, offering nothing.
with that came his lucky break - the incumbent ward councillor, nicola jowell arrives.
i'm quickly introduced to nicola - which served as a very handy distraction at the moment.

voting time comes, da gets about 94% vote - nicola is appointed ward councillor.
her and i have had a heathy and productive relationship over the years - i have launched an attack or two, but for the most part she has put in considerable effort during a period characterized by high dramas.

but yes - fear mongering, scare tactics & stone throwing have become somewhat of a modus operandi come election season.
