He critiques the separation of powers as largely metaphorical

Achieving that is beyond the ANC & co.'s own thinking or planning ability.

One has to also wonder if an independent WC could survive in this type of world now.
Efforts of the current American Right suggest it's possible.

Hmmm...

Tbh, I don't know what he means by 'metaphorical,' here.

I think maybe he meant 'rhetorical'.

Because that is definitely closer to indisputable truth.

Rhetoric is the bread and butter of every political operator,... essentially the art of lying.

Which type of world?

No, I'm pretty sure he's saying that it's a farce, "metaphorical" describing the illusion of the differences.

Which type of world?

A totally dishonest one. At the top anyway.

DM me if you want to discuss further.

Well, I think our ai, in this instance, has got it wrong on this one. Because a metaphor is a model of something that actually exists, in the real world.

The separation of powers doesn't really exist, so it's not a model of anything.

To use a figure of speech, you must have something literal to apply it to. If he were to say "'separation of powers' is a bad attempt at a metaphor,' it would make more sense. It is his second language after all.... you can tell that by listening to him speaking English, in his interviews over the years.

In either case, I think we agree that what's he saying is there is no genuine separation, due to the overriding unified ideological goals of the actors across all 3 power centers.

So, iow, we have all been led to believe the constitution, specifically the notion of a separation of powers, is protecting us.... meanwhile the relatively more productive are getting screwed over by the political class, and set up for further failure, probably leading to collapse..

Cue SAn version of 'but the Dow is at $50k!!!': But the Springboks are double world champions!!!

:giggle:

Yeah, I could go further about possible meaning in that one instance but I think we got close enough to an understanding.

Glad you can still smile about some of it, guess we have to.

Yes. 100% agree.

That's why a follow-up secession should be upper-most in secessionist minds.

It's likely the first one will be co-opted by the Epstein class.

Oops, you're doing it again - the follow up secession thing.

It's like planning what you're going to trade your Lamborghini in on, when you're still scrambling for bus fare.

Doubt it will could be anything near as bad as the current situation though, too many awake people involved this time.
Yes.... under normal circumstances one might say 'spare a thought' for the EC.

They're under unprecedented pressure to escape accountability, in the face of ongoing dot-joining.

So, they'll have to concoct one hell of a global crisis to distract our attention next time. Although the US-Israeli aggression appears to be such an attempt.

Already the world's attention has been off their sticky sordid Epstein morasse, for 2 weeks ... and counting.

Kirk Assassination + Epstein mess + anti-American foreign policy = plummeting popularity for DJT. The legacy media's job is to paint a rosy picture of MAGA's response to all of this. But we'll see..... it appears a boots on the ground mission is on the cards, and that sounds like an irreversible step into another protratced, lose-lose scenario for everyone.

We'll have to see.

Pfft, you guys, no taste... there is only Maserati
As I said.... trading it in .....just as soon as I get the key....

🤷‍♂️

p.s. BTW, before I settle on a Maserati, is the Maserati a manual speed, with no digital-ONLY controls?

Give me no-frills, quality in terms of raw power, sleek design and simple but comfortable leather interior.

Nothing overly flashy or ostentacious and no useless showroom fluff/bells and whistles.

Nah, Trump is on his own mission. Thank goodness some of that has a bit of sense involved, although this part is really on the edge. If we imagine it is justified, can a war-liking nation like Iran really be subdued?... worked somewhat in Iraq as far as that factor goes.

Who knows what he may have prevented by this extreme, if that is what has actually happened of course. We'll never know.
And where does it end with him..

Something tells me the hard-line religious people(?) in Jerusalem, are not surprised about the danger on account of millions of Shias having arrived in Western, so-called 1st-world nations over the last several administrations.

The unspeakable mess, of Biblical proportions, if they start popping off, suicide-bomber/shooter-style, in retaliation for their Western aggressors assault on their homeland and their religious leader.

Avoid anything with the DuoSelect automated manual gearbox. Very problematic and you'd want to secede from its ownership very quickly.

The ones with the fully automatic box (ZF I think) are a bit more robust and better to associate with.

The political temperature in this thread is too much for my bones, catch you lot later

Are you telling me they have a hybrid transmission/gear-box, now?

Sounds as bad as a mixed-economy.

@Splinter so where exactly do you then stand wrt Cape Independence?

Meaning, if you're "anti" / against it, what's your reasons as to why you are against the movement/ Independence/ referendum ?

Hypothetically, if tomorrow everyone in South Africa 🇿🇦 had the opportunity to vote 🗳 YAY or NAY for Cape Independence, what would your vote be and why ?
I have already stated my stance on this. Quite a while ago, though.
