And as much as it sucks, the need to investigate properly, they can't just trust you to be telling the truth and just give you money.

I have been with Capitec since 2009 and I only have good reports about them. They even refunded my sons money when his card and pin was stolen at an ATM. Best bank is SA by far!

Do you have a witness to attest to the sum paid out? Do you have the slip showing the sum requested? Do you have your bank statement showing an incorrect amount? Consider going to Small Claims Court.

Geez no, this is bad advice. You let the bank do their investigation(ideally they should refund you straight away in good faith, I won't trust a bank that's too full of stories) Then when that fails you go the the banking ombud. You don't need witnesses or slips or anything. The bank has the records of what happened and the ATMs should balance.

I agree with you, but OP doesn't seem interested in waiting.

Also I've heard that when you approach an industry ombud, you waive your right to approach a court, is that true?

The banks have a process for dealing with these disputes. I actually develop systems that automate this partially. Speak to your bank, they will sort this out.

My brain died reading this.

I've seen multiple atm disputes over the years. You will get your money back, but it takes time, usually 1 to 2 weeks. Capitec really sucks at cash handling, but they are a good bank otherwise.

Once happened to me at an FNB ATM, but I immediately got an sms thereafter acknowledging the error and confirming the correct amount dispensed. They've got some smart tech in an ATM to even be able to tell when the very same ATM made a mistake itself!

So yeah maybe Capitec does it manually, but I agree that they will fix this. Just seems OP does not want to wait, hence my previous advice.

And as per usual, this new member has just vanished after one post.

Anyone here updated to latest 15 December version banking app ?

Very mixed responses on Play Store. From not working, very slow, working fine - some users very upset

Don't want banking hassles over the holiday period, or go back to a branch - so I am holding off on the update

I know a lady working at absa, she is in charge of a few atm's. The atm's sent her notifications all the time, also if it feels it did not payed op all op's money.

It messed up for me. I set my rent payment to go off on the 24th. On the 24th I checked the app, and saw that the payment was somehow set to go off on the 27th. I cancelled the future dated payment and did a manual payment. Later, the automatic payment went off too. Luckily I have enough cash to pay 2 months of rent, but it is a **** up of note.

If you didnt have enough money it would have reserved the figure into a negative on the savings account.
Something similar happened to me in 2016. I made a purchase of a fairly high amount, the transaction seemed to get stuck with the subsequent "Transaction Declined" slip printing rom the machine. Like a dumbass I didnt take the slip, but we tried the transaction again and it went off without a hitch.Later that day I got an sms saying the first transaction went off but my funds for that particular saving pocket was in the negative thereafter.

It took them roughly half a day to sort out after I logged a case
