Capitec, is it worth it?

With FNB, if you keep a bank balance of over R10000 in your account all txans are free.It is an pricing option you can setup on your account....

Sure if you have R10k and prefer FNB - then go ahead.

I am personally done with the Big 4 in this country.

I've gotten most of my colleagues to convert as well.
Sticking it to the man - one swipe at a time! :)

Trust me, I hate these f**kers too. I mean, think about it, you work your backside off to make money. The govt takes out tax, then VAT, and you depost what's left into your bank account. Then you have to pay extra to the bank to get access to your own money.:mad:

Main reason I'm sticking with FNB is cos i try to keep this min acc balance and transfer cash overseas regularly which takes about 3 days to reflect. Perhaps I should check if capitec offers international transfers etc....

Also CPI isn't covered by the Reserve bank? Or so I've heard...

Mmm not sure if about sending money overseas with them hey.

But yeah you could call them and check...

LOL

Also my local FNB is a nightmare. The queues are madness unless I'm prepared to drive 6km.

Doing the big move this month, eventually.

I'm with Standard Bank and the only two ATMs I have access to are a pain to get to. At least with Capitec, I can walk up to any ATM and draw my cash knowing how much I'm going to be paying.

Best of all is that I'm everyday at my local Spar and I can draw cash from them with a purchase (and only pay R1 !!!).

My neighbours (in their 70/80s) moved to Capitec last year and said it was the best move. They said the branch is a pleasure to work with. They also gladly deal with their clients in Afrikaans.

I see Capitec advertising no charges for debit card purchases (a function I prefer to use). That sounds very appealing. Are there any catches? Is it really ANY debit card purchase?

I took all my business from ABSA to Capitec about 4 years ago and have not regretted my move at all. Personal friendly attention. Save bucket loads of money on bank charges, get brilliant interest on savings.

ABSA are sharks out for your blood however and will do what ever they can to sink you and get their hands on as much of your money while they do it.

What I don't understand with them is that they pay less interest if you have more than R10000 in an account?
Anyone make sense of this?

Capitec has the highest interest rate for fixed deposits.

Right! So now I'm officially gatvol for absa's kuk service.:mad:
Capitec have opened a branch close enough to me.

Their internet banking:

Can somebody tell me what formats you can download your bank statements in?
I use MS Money, and need to import them.

Can you set up beneficiaries yourself and pay them online immediately, or do you need the go to the bank for that first?

Free Bump on this one as I also want to know. Think I might just go open my Capitec bank account this Saturday.

You can download the statements in pdf, csv, qif and ofx.

Yes you can set up beneficiaries yourself and pay them immediately.

To get online banking, you need to purchase a one time pin device from them for R125 though, but if you pay a lot in banking fees (R100+), you'll make that back in savings in 3 months tops.

I'm paying R169 pm at absa for the platinum package + extra little charges here and there that make it closer to R200.
Tx for the info.

Do they have garage cards yet?

Nope,

But I just use my Capitec debit card to purchase petrol at BP (wireless card machine they bring to you) or most Shells (card machine on pillar next to pumps), no transaction fee.

You got scammed, brotha? Coz the OTP device is R50...

That's the only thing I'll miss from absa, will have to make sure I carry cash.

I am confused. You use a petrol card to pay for petrol but when you have the option to use a debit card you'd rather pay cash. What is the difference?

Edit: I didn't see the thread resurrection but I don't think that changes anything.

Capitec, isn't that the bank where the CEO recently cashed out all his shares? Dun dun duuuuuuuuh!

At the time that post was made, the price was about R125.

correct, I also had to pay this price for anew one last year sometime
the device is now free when you open an account, only a replacement will cost you.

well it was a few months ago anyway

Doesn't capitec have high fixed deposit interest rates?

capitec is the only bank for me. Cant leave my money with another bank where the charge me R80+ and get no interest.

Capitec my interest is more than my bank fees every month (R45, doing a lot of cash withdrawls from other atm's)
