Capitec launches QR code payments

Capitec has announced the launch of "Scan to Pay" QR code payment functionality in its new banking app.

The bank said this is the only Scan to Pay offering from a South African bank that can be used across all major QR code-based payment providers, including SnapScan and Zapper.

Standard Bank have the same app for almost two years already...seems capitec is playing catch-up and posing they are the first and only...

Is it integrated within the standard bank app like Capitec?

It ia not integrated into their app. It is a stand alone masterpass app...actually they just reskinned the masterpass app

I was using the Capitec Masterpass app, and now that they've switched to this in-app payment method the previous app isn't working any more.

It's all very well integrating it, but it now takes longer to make a payment with the new function that's built in to the app. You have to first log in then navigate to scan to pay. It's way clunkier than just using the separate app.

Don't have to log in if you set it as a favourite.

That's what Capitec had, now they have integrated that functionality into their app directly.

It will be nice if my back details had their own qr code so if I want to charge for my services, I open my app and show it or have it saved to WhatsApp as a starred message or saved in my photo gallery that can be scanned directly on my phone screen.
