went there just after 5pm, took me 15min to upgrade the old card to the new debit mastercard, they imprint your name on the card at the branch, though it does not stand out like a normal credit card , does have an expire date and cvc code on it.

The banck charges is the same , you use your savings account money on this card, they destroy the old card.

very impressed with the service was so quick to get it done, and that all after 5pm , take that steve!

Got mine also after work. Also took about 15 - 20 minutes. Mine took a bit longer cause just as I was about to walk out I turned back and confirmed that I can use it to shop online and she said no...I have to have it activated. See..when she asked me if she can activate any new services for me I did not know online shopping is included. I thought it was standard. So then she had to go back in and activate SMS notifications (seems this is mandatory for security reasons with the online shopping thing)

They then send you a 10 digit code via SMS and then after 24 - 73 hours you must go to a website and create you secure code which you then use to shop online with your card.

I tried it now...but did not accept my identity verification details. Phoned the Capitec help line and she said I must try tomorrow and if it does not work tomorrw...the day after. Reason why it takes a bit of time is because our details needs to filter through to MasterCard.

Hmmmm just to throw a spanner into the works, my new ABSA debit card is a MasterCard, has an expiry date, has a chip and a CVV number on the back...

I just thought that it would be like the Nedbank pin & chip cheque cards where it has the chip and the card number and your name is embossed into the card. When you shop online or order a pizza on the phone they take a imprint of your card when they deliver. So with this card...when you shop online or order a pizza...how they going to take a imprint? Thats all I was wondering.
I know they do that for pizza delivery. Never encountered an online shop that did it. But anyway it's the number they care about, not your name.

+1 For vcpay - works like a charm.

I emailed Capitec about the debit master card yesterday ...

Kindly note that we do have selected branches in the Western Cape ( Somerset Mall, Somerset Vineyard) who are issuing the debit Master card.

Yay - I think it is almost time. Time to kick blabsa. Kick them where it hurts.

Really? When I was working in the shop we had to take a imprint of the card on the machine slip, especially with big amounts in case the customer logs a dispute with the bank. It is then used to prove that we had the physical card with us when we did the sale.

This.

The latest advisory we received from the bank ~1.5ish years ago still mentioned that we should do this for any large/high risk transactions using eg. international cards or any phone-verified off-line transactions when eg. the power is out. We still have the zipzap machine here somewhere! The imprint we take is useless without the cvv number in any case. It is just there to protect the merchant.

Personally I am more than happy to give a company an imprint of my card - if the situation warrants it - The thing is I physically remove the cvv from all my cards so ... :D

Do they charge the R35 for Replacement/Supplementary card fee when you get the new card?

****ing idiots. They didn't activate online shopping. What the **** do they think I want the new card for, if not that?

i just got statement at the bank , because i need it for a new cellphone contract, says R35 replacement fee , so they did charge me :P

boy oh boy oh boy. My sister is one pissed off female! I think ABSA pissed her off for the last time now. Was visiting her on Saturday and she said that she is going to give it 2 months or so once she has moved into her new house and the renovations is done...then she is going to move her brand new bond over to SA Homeloans or something and close her platinum account with ABSA and move over to Capitec.

She pais like a minimum of R300.00 per month for a so called platinum account + supposed private banker included but she still gets treated like a dog and basically had to go on her knees and beg for the extra R80 000.00 that she has pre-approved with her bond application. The cow at ABSA said no, she needs to do the renovations first and then they will send someone out to come and have a look and check that it is actually worth the amount of money that she wanted extra ontop of her bond. She was like WTF!!!!! I dont have the money to do the renovations...hence why I applied for the extra bit on my bond and you fcking guys said it is 100%...when I am ready to start with the renovations I must let you know and you will release the money...now this CRAP! She then phoned the home loans head office...and the guy she spoke to there and he said he does not know what this woman is going on about...but the money should be released. So my sister phones back the woman at the branch that is doing this for her...and she goes...NO...The guy does not know what he is talking about...RENOVATIONS FIRST...then we will give you the money!

My then ended up having to take out a personal loan to cover it at a much higer interest...so hopefully when the renovations is done...and they release this extra dosh on the bond...she can clear the personal loan with the higher interest rate.

Together with all the IB outages etc she has now just had enough. Said ABSA can take their shiny Platinum card that means jack fcking sh*t and shove it up their verkrampte holle! hahahahaha.

Just hope she sticks to her guns and goes with Capitec. heheheheh.
